Rules of the Game Book 2: Bending the Rules by Brigham Vaughn

Rules of the Game Book 2

Rule #1: Rules are made to … bend

Noah Boucher loves his career as a hot-shot NHL goaltender—even after making league history as the first openly bi player. Last season’s catastrophic knee injury sidelined him and ended the Toronto Fisher Cats’ chance in the playoffs but now he’s determined to have one final season to win the Cup before he retires.

Hockey has always come first, but when fate offers him a second chance with his college crush, he’s desperate to not repeat the mistakes of his past.

Rule #2: Don’t mess with fate

When a chance meeting on a scenic train trip puts Noah back into Simon Lawrence’s life, he’s wary even though their connection is as strong as ever.

Noah walked away from him once to pursue his hockey dreams and the photographer and gallery owner has been burned by long-distance relationships in the past.

A future together will require braving not only the distance and time apart, but the media scrutiny that comes with dating a pro hockey player.

Rule #3: Trust your heart

When a catastrophe at the gallery hits just as the pressure of the playoffs is heating up, Noah will have to bend the rules and convince Simon that this time, love comes first.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Noah doesn’t have many regrets. How can he when he is living his dream as a NHL player? He’s one of the best goalies in the league and despite his injury, he is sure he’ll make it make in time to finish the season and win the Cup before he finally calls it quits. He was even brave enough to be the first in the league and step out into the limelight to announce he was bisexual. But there is one thing he can’t help but as what if about. Simon. Back in college he met Simon and the chemistry between them was amazing. But their timing terrible. Their friendship was great and just when Noah was gaining the courage to ask him out, Simon dated someone else. For their next two college years, their timing would still be off. Every time one was single, the other was dating. But Noah was determined and things were changing…just in time for him to be called up to the NHL and away from them ever having a chance. But fate has finally given them a second chance. Fate puts them on the same train for a short trip. And everything falls into place. The chemistry and connection between them is still there and this time, neither are letting go. Unfortunately, Noah has to finish the season out and Simon is in the middle of opening an art gallery, but neither are willing to let go of one another. Not when they only have to be long distance for months rather than years. I adored these two and their second chance romance! The two of them thought of one another throughout the years, but their time really has come now with so many things aligning. I loved how they navigated their relationship without giving up on another. Another great story in this series and I’m looking forward to more!
