Fae & Alchemy Book 1: Quicksilver by Callie Hart

Fae & Alchemy Book 1

Do not touch the sword.
Do not turn the key.
Do not open the gate.

In the land of the unforgiving desert, there isn’t much a girl wouldn’t do for a glass of water.

Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses, or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen’s reservoirs for as long as she can remember.

But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone.

When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares…but it turns out they’re real, and Saeris has landed herself right in the middle of a centuries-long conflict that might just get her killed.

The first of her kind to tread the frozen mountains of Yvelia in over a thousand years, Saeris mistakenly binds herself to Kingfisher, a handsome Fae warrior, who has secrets and nefarious agendas of his own. He will use her Alchemist’s magic to protect his people, no matter what it costs him… or her.

Death has a name.

It is Kingfisher of the Ajun Gate. His past is murky. His attitude stinks. And he’s the only way Saeris is going to make it home.

Be careful of the deals you make, dear child. The devil is in the details...

My Review: 5/5 Stars

I’ll admit, this took me a hot minute to get into, but once I hit a point, I couldn’t put it down! And now I’m super excited for book two! So the story follow Saeris who is doing everything she can to keep her and her brother, Hayden, alive. But when things take a bad turn and it leads to Saeris opening a gateway between realms, she finds herself at the mercy of the Fae. Everyone tells her she is an Alchemist and that it is up to her to help them in their war. All she wants to do is go home. But in order to do that she will have to master these skills she has had but never understood or truly used. Then there is Kingfisher. The Fae who brought her here. Who challenges her at every turn, pushes her away but then reels her back in. Their pull to one another is undeniable despite it all. And the more she learns of him and his world, the more pulled in she is. I really loved this story and the characters! It’s an interesting world of the Fae. And we had such a great cast of characters. I loved Saeris and Fisher’s dynamic, the good and bad. I loved how the love between was built bit by bit and hard earned after everything. I loved our side characters who made you constantly laugh while also being these awesome warriors. We had so many great battles. It was a great story of adventure, magic, and love. And so many twists and turns! That ending alone has me pumped for book two to see what our characters will do next.
