Zodiac Academy Book 7: Heartless Sky by Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti

Heartless Sky (Zodiac Academy #7)
Zodiac Academy Book 7

The winds of fate are shifting, and it finally seems like they’ve been twisted in our favour.

On the run and cast out from society, we’ve been forced to hide from the mad man who stole our throne. But as more secrets come to light and my sister and I work harder than ever before to reach our potential and claim our birth right, the end is finally drawing closer.

There is no turning from this path now. The curse chases on our heels as time rushes by and the blood drenched destiny of the man I love looms ever closer just like the monster who stole our throne.

We must prepare for the final battle, but three things are clear now.

The cards have already been dealt.

Blood will spill for a new future to rise.

And the stars themselves can’t help us.

The fight for the throne is upon us. All hail the heartless sky.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

I've read book endings where everything blows up and everyone is in pretty bad places. But I don't think any of them have truly hit this kind of level of "oh crap." Everything blew up in all the most terrible ways and it is going to be hell to wait until the end of the year to get the last book of this series. So to rewind a bit from the ending that broke me. And beware some spoilers if you aren't caught up to the series! The story picks up almost right where the last one left off. Everyone has escaped the battle from the arena and are now fully rebels and in hiding from Lionel and the crazy Shadow Princess. Their goals now are to regroup and get plans in order to take down their enemy for good. But sacrifices were made to get to this point. The biggest one being Darius sacrificing himself to save Tory and Darcy from their fate in the arena. The star bonds placed on Darius and Tory are erased and they get a clean slate. No more Starcrossed curse and no more Guardian bonds. They are free. But Darius's life has a time limit and he plans to spend every moment with his Roxy and defeat his father so he knows he left her with a better future. But telling her and his loved ones is a whole other thing. Darcy and Orion are together again but with him being Power Shamed, it makes everything a bit harder when everyone around them is constantly turning their backs. Orion fears tarnishing Darcy's name and status and the rebels turning their backs on her if she stands with him. And if that isn't enough Darcy is still cursed but what that means remains a bit of a mystery. The rest of the Heirs are fighting alongside them and stay hopeful that their parents survive Lionel and can fend for themselves until the time comes for them to run. And of course a little bit of romance drama for them as well. Max is still trying to win Geraldine over and is happy to prove his feelings for her despite her arranged marriage. And Caleb and Seth... well those boys need to learn to talk to one another. Specifically Seth not wanting to listen to real advice and listen and jumping to the wrong conclusions. And I better see some improvement between them or I'm gonna lose it!

So much goes down in this story. I laughed and cried. So many things are revealed and we get to learn so much more about all of these characters. The character development from them all from book one to now is astonishing. You can't help but love them, flaws and all. They fought so hard in this story and the stakes are higher than ever. And that ending. Like I said it was intense and despite the losses and heartache, I can't help but feel like everything will eventually end well. They all deserve their happy endings and I'm looking forward to seeing how that plays out. December is too far away, but I'll just have to check out the other books that take place in that world to find out! (Which I learned about way too late!!) Great, great book despite ripping my heart out a bit, but I'm optimistic that these characters will get what they deserve in the end and I can't wait to see how it all comes together.
