Green Creek Book 1: Wolfsong by TJ Klune

Green Creek Book 1

The Bennett family has a secret: They're not just a family, they're a pack. Wolfsong is Ox Matheson's story.

Oxnard Matheson was twelve when his father taught him that Ox wasn’t worth anything and people would never understand him. Then his father left.

Ox was sixteen when the energetic Bennett family moved in next door, harboring a secret that would change him forever. The Bennetts are shapeshifters. They can transform into wolves at will. Drawn to their magic, loyalty, and enduring friendships, Ox feels a gulf between this extraordinary new world and the quiet life he’s known, but he finds an ally in Joe, the youngest Bennett boy.

Ox was twenty-three when murder came to town and tore a hole in his heart. Violence flared, tragedy split the pack, and Joe left town, leaving Ox behind. Three years later, the boy is back. Except now he’s a man – charming, handsome, but haunted – and Ox can no longer ignore the song that howls between them.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

This book blew me away. I was genuinely just so impressed by this story and how it reeled me in right away. Beautiful storytelling and characters and magic and so much more. I couldn’t put it down. There was just something about it that made it just so intriguing to read. I adored this story and I cannot wait to check out the rest of the series. So this story follows Ox. Ox hasn’t always had it easy. His father left when he was a kid and was told that he was just this big, dumb guy who wasn’t worth anything. That no one would get him or care much for him. But Ox kinda pushes past it. He knows who he is and knows that he may be slow at times, but he has this gentle soul and good heart that just shines through. And then things take an interesting turn when the Bennett family moves in next door when Ox is sixteen. And life is never the same. Not when he meets Joe who may be a ten at the time they meet, but claims Ox as his. But Joe’s family does as well. And Ox learns what family is in addition to his mom and Gordo, who looked after Ox and gave him a job at his garage. And then there is the biggest twist of all when Ox learns the the Bennett family are a pack of werewolves. New rules and new dynamics as the years go by. And I loved the way werewolves were represented in this story. So different, yet familiar to ones I have read before. And just so so good. But of course with the good there is the bad in the story when someone is out to hurt their family. And it will take a long time for bad to be gone for good. I won’t say much else because it is just a story that doesn’t deserve to be spoiled. I adored it. I loved Ox and Joe’s romance, I loved Ox’s found family and how he keeps his family together through the good and bad. I love Ox’s growth throughout the story. This book just had it all. The magic, love, family, happiness, heartbreak, humor, and so much more. Even better, it’s the first book of this series and I just can’t wait to pick up the next one.
