A Mercy Thompson Novel Book 14: Winter Lost by Patricia Briggs

Mercy Thompson Book 14

Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, must stop a disaster of world-shattering proportions in this exhilarating entry in the No. 1 New York Times bestselling series.

In the supernatural realms, there are creatures who belong to winter. I am not one of them. But like the coyote I can become at will, I am adaptable.

My name is Mercy Thompson Hauptman, and my mate, Adam, is the werewolf who leads the Columbia Basin Pack, the pack charged with keeping the people who live and work in the Tri-Cities of Washington State safe. It's a hard job, and it doesn't leave much room for side quests. Which is why when I needed to travel to Montana to help my brother, I intended to go by myself.

But I'm not alone anymore.

Together, Adam and I find ourselves trapped with strangers in a lodge in the heart of the wilderness, in the teeth of a storm of legendary power, only to discover my brother's issues are a tiny part of a problem much bigger than we could have imagined. Arcane and ancient magics are at work that could, unless we are very careful, bring about the end of the world…

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Back in the world of Mercy Thompson and it’s really such a great one to be in. It always takes me a moment or two to remember everyone and everything that has happened so far. 14 books is a lot! But the stories only get more and more interesting as the series go on. This one in particular was definitely a fun and interesting one. When Mercy’s half-brother shows up with some sort of magic on him that keeps him for speaking or really seeing what is going on, she knows she must help him. This leads her and her mate, Adam, to venture to Montana. Where it is more than just asking a frost giant to reverse what he has done to Gary. Mercy and Adam must recover the giant’s stolen harp or the storm he has created will kill all those in the area. But everything is connected. An important wedding that is occurring at the lodge held on sacred land is the key the harp’s whereabouts. And the most interesting piece? Lots of Norse mythology in this story and of course the threat of Ragnarok. Mercy’ adventures are never boring! And oh! Don’t forget, Coyote always has his hands on the chaos, so you know he did something to make things even more interesting. Had a lot of fun with this one! This is one of my favorite worlds to be in and the stories just get better and better. There are still threads of Mercy’s story that isn’t quite finished. And I’m looking forward to when those knots will be resolved and for her next adventure!

Franklin U 2 Book 4: Level Up by Max Walker

Franklin U 2 Book 4

Joey 'Jay' Cruz

Moving to San Luco wasn’t my choice. I was expelled from my old school because of a protest I organized that went south. Now, I was attending Franklin University with only a semester left until graduation and not knowing a single soul.

Until I meet Ryan Redpine at a frat party. He’s handsome, muscular, has a great smile, and I quickly find out he’s the son of a CEO hell-bent on destroying the environment.

I push Ryan out of my mind, deciding to keep my sanity and morals in tact.

But fate had other plans. When Ryan ended up as my surprise dorm mate, avoiding him became impossible. And so was avoiding the feelings that started to develop... Maybe getting expelled wasn't the worst thing that’s ever happened to me. Maybe it was actually the best?

Ryan Redpine

Jay entered my life like a lightning bolt.

I’d never met someone I was so attracted to, and someone who clearly didn’t want me. The moment he learned about my dad, he shut me out. Then I get reassigned to his dorm. Cue complications, especially when his bed breaks and we're forced to share.

Things quickly heat up, but Jay's adamant about keeping us under wraps. He's planning this big protest at the beach for an oil drilling project and doesn't want my family name tied to it.

So how do I tell Jay my dad is one of the backers? And how do I make sure I don’t lose him in the process?

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Jay is an environmental activist. He does what he can to help the environment and for him that is leading peaceful protests. So figures the cute guy he meets at a party is the son of a CEO who’s company is exactly the type that Jay is against. Resisting Ryan at a party was one thing but when there is an issue at one of the dorms and Ryan becomes his roommate? Jay knows he is in trouble. He does his best to resist Ryan but the more Ryan proves how great a guy he is and more importantly is not like his dad the harder it is to resist. And it’s only a matter of time until Jay lets his feelings for Ryan show. Ryan can’t get Jay out of his head. And when he learns why Jay doesn’t want much to do with him, he is set to prove he is different from his dad. The truth of the matter is, he doesn’t like what his dad’s company is doing. And he doesn’t want to work there in the future like his dad wants him to. He has his own passions. And as much as he loves his dad, he can’t pretend to support him. And the more he spends with Jay the more he knows Jay is his future. But when his dad takes on a project that Jay is dead set against, how can Ryan risk what they are building with one another to tell him what his dad is doing? Things are complicated but the chemistry these two have are undeniable. They are such a great pair and their feelings for one another are so much stronger than anything else! I loved these two! It’s been so fun being back at Franklin U and I’m looking forward to the rest of this series!

The Games We Play Book 3: Even Strength by Cari Z & Ann Gallagher

The Games We Play Book 3

Marek Stetina is so close to getting called up to majors, he can taste it. Maybe he wasn’t a number one draft pick like his brother, and maybe he’ll never be a Hall of Famer like his father, but he’s almost made it.

Right up until a serious injury puts his hockey dreams—major league or otherwise—on ice.

Up-and-coming MMA star Carson Wrede’s career—hell, his entire life—has been off the rails ever since a mishap during a fight put him in the hospital. Now he’s trying to find his balance again, both literally and figuratively. With each passing day, his chances of returning to the cage grow slimmer… as do his chances of paying that growing pile of medical bills.

Maybe a TBI support group isn’t the most romantic place to meet someone, but Marek and Carson can’t complain. While their worlds seem to be crumbling around them, they lean on each other through endless setbacks and frustration.

But is this just two guys helping each other through a tough time? Or is the connection between them real, honest love?

And is that love enough to see them through some unavoidable decisions about the careers they once lived for?

My Review: 4/5 Stars

Marek and Carson are in need of a break. Both have been through a lot recently and need something good. And that becomes one another when they meet in an unexpected place. Marek is a hockey player in the minor league hoping to follow his dad and brother’s footsteps to play in the majors. But a horrible hit on the ice leaves him with a concussion like no other. Everything changes. And his recovery is slow and unpredictable. But the one good thing? Meeting Carson at a support group for those have been through similar injuries. Carson is a MMA fighter where a mishap during a fight put him in the hospital. Now with his career stalled, it isn’t easy making a living. He is struggling every day to recover and to just make enough money to stay afloat. He lives in his car and teaches where he can. All in the hopes of getting back out there. Carson also is used to the bad things being thrown at you in life and when he meets Marek, it’s the first good thing. Now he will do what he can to hold on to Marek. These two are so sweet and just get one another. They become great supports to one another while falling for each other too. They both deserve some happiness after everything they have been through and are still going through. Because these poor guys and their concussions are no joke. A sweet romance with these two! I will say I wished there was more to their story!

The Games We Play Book 4: On Thin Ice by Denver Shaw

The Games We Play Book 4

As captain of the LA Grizzlies, Ryan ‘Ry’ Bennett’s life is all about hockey and pushing himself to the limit. A future in the major leagues would fulfill his life-long dream, but at 32, it seems like a far-off goal, especially as he watches younger, more promising players earn their chance.

Then he skates into Ry’s life.

Twenty-two year-old Alexander ‘Xander’ Harrison, a ray of sunshine, turns Ry’s world upside down. From their first clash at training camp to the late-night conversations that reveal the man beneath the surface, Ry finds himself drawn to Xander in ways he can't explain. Xander’s everything Ry’s not - carefree, optimistic, and unapologetically himself.

Ry never thought he'd find love, especially with a man. But Xander shows him that love doesn't care about expectations or pasts.

It just is.

When a league shake-up threatens to tear them apart, Ry knows he can't let go without a fight. Because in the end, love isn't about the games we play. It's about the person we choose to stand with, no matter what.

What to dual first person pov, slow burn, double bi-awakening, grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract, found family and a guaranteed HEA.

The Games We Play is a multi-author minor league hockey romance series! All titles run concurrently through the same hockey season and the books can be read in any order, so jump in anywhere!

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Ry and Xander can’t help but clash when they are on the ice. Xander just has a way of getting under Ry’s skin. All Ry wants is that chance to play in the majors for good. He just needs to keep focusing and work hard and ignore Xander. But things get complicated when Xander is traded to his team. Their coach may think that they can turn their rivalry into something brilliant when on the same team. But Ry isn’t so sure. But there is something about Xander that Ry can’t shake. His sunshine personality has a way of thawing the gruffness of Ry. Xander wants to show Ry that they can be a great team. He just needs to give Xander a chance to prove it. Little by little he knocks Ry’s walls down and is surprised by how alike and how well they can get along when their guard is down. And then suddenly, the two of them are feeling something way more than rivalry and their new budding friendship. Instead, they are falling in love and realizing just how important they have become to one another. But can they keep their relationships and their dreams of playing the majors one day? These two were just so fun. I loved their rivalry and the sunshine vs. grump vibe they had going on. Ry is so used to being serious, he has forgotten how to have fun until Xander comes charging into his life. And Xander has never felt an attraction to someone before or just someone caring so much for him, but with Ry, he can feel the love once they let their guards down. They bring out the best in one another and they were just so sweet! I loved watching them fall in love and fight their future together.

The Games We Play Book 2: Just Add Ice by LC Chase

The Games We Play Book 2

Sparks fly when ice meets fire.

After eight years in the minors, Rayne “the Pain” Hamilton has realized two things: One, his chances of getting called up to the Big Show are rapidly dwindling with each passing season; and two, he needs a plan for life after hockey. What he doesn’t bargain for is the gorgeous instructor at the fire training center who ignites his heart with burning desire.

Nick Seavers had a great life until his husband died suddenly, and his sun blinked out. A demanding career firefighting and teaching the next generation of firefighters are the only things keeping him sane. The last thing he wants is one of the new trainees, a larger-than-life hockey player with mischievous eyes, taking up space in his head and making him feel things he never thought he’d feel again.

As the heat rises between Rayne and Nick, trade rumors begin circulating and Rayne has to decide: Move to yet another city and start all over again or step off the ice and into the fire with Nick.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Rayne is nearing the end of his hockey career. The chances of him moving up form the minors is majors is low so it is time to think of what is next. For him, that’s training to be a firefighter. And training begins soon. But he never expects for one of his trainers to catch his eye. And for said trainer to make him forget about hockey and really settle in one place after years of moving for hockey. Nick has been going through the motions of life for the last two years. His husband died in an accident after many years together and he just hasn’t found something or someone to spark life back into him. Until Rayne. From the moment their eyes meet, Nick feels something for the first time in a very long time. And the more they talk and spend time together, the more it grows. But is he truly ready to move on? I loved Rayne and Nick! These two were so sweet. I loved that Rayne didn’t give up on Nick but gave him the space he needed to decide if he was ready to take a chance. Especially once firefighting training was over. And I loved the Rayne was able to spark some happiness for Nick after such a terrible loss. These two fit so perfectly together! Really enjoying this series so far!

Stonefire Dragons Book 16: Charming the Dragon by Jessie Donovan

Stonefire Dragons Book 16

A grumpy dragonman and a flighty but brilliant human female lawyer end up locked together in a secret room...

Hayley Beckett’s sister desperately needs a shot of dragon’s blood to save her life. She’s a lawyer who helps dragon-shifters and refuses to buy it on the black market, nor can she join the sacrifice program because of the importance of her job. However, after helping Clan Stonefire with a recent case, she hatches a plan. In exchange for her help in creating a more centralized law and case database for the dragon-shifters, they’ll give her sister the much needed treatment. What she didn’t plan on was being paired with a grumpy yet sexy dragonman who sees everything she does as a nuisance.

Nathan Woodhouse is used to dealing with the alpha Protectors on Stonefire. He does his job, they leave him alone. It’s perfect. Then the clan leader and head of security assign him a job to design a legal database for a human female. He’d much prefer working alone and communicating through email, but she insists on working inside the clan because it gives her access to their records. When she accidentally triggers an old mechanism that locks them in a rarely used area of the clan, he can’t ignore her. And then his dragon decides he wants her.

As they tackle their project and the mishaps along the way, word gets out of what they’re doing and a familiar enemy causes some trouble. Will Nathan and Hayley be able to admit their feelings and be together? Or, will Hayley have to flee Stonefire and possibly the UK for her safety?

The release date is set for July but this book may release as early as May. Also, the blurb is subject to change.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Hayley's passion for law and for helping others has led her to many great accomplishments. Including helping some dragonshifters at Clan Stonefire. And it's because of her success in helping the clan, that gives her the courage to ask for a favor. One that she will repay by crating a case database for the dragonshifters to help them in future issues. In exchange, all she wants is a vial of dragon blood to help dying sister. Lucky for her, Clan Stonefire is kind and accepts her offer knowing that Hayley is good people. But when she arrives at Clan Stonefire she is met with a pretty grumpy dragon. No matter, she will prove to Nathan that she can get her job done and ignore that feeling of attraction for him. At least for a little while. Nathan prefers to work alone and isn't too fond of humans after a female broke his heart a few years ago after seeing his dragon eyes. But the minute Hayley arrives, she slowly breaks down the walls that he put around himself. And his dragon doesn't help the matter when he begins to insist that she could be his true mate. But everything changes for Nathan and Hayley when they accidentally lock themselves in the underground tunnel systems below Clan Stonefire. They'll have to work together to find a way out and in doing so, they may just see one another for who they truly are. I really loved Hayley and Nathan's story! They were a fun pair and matched one another perfectly. They respected the other and treated one another as equals, unlike some from their past relationships. I loved how they worked together and their chemistry was great! Another great addition to this series and with teases of other characters and future storylines. As usual, I can't wait for the next one!

Crimson Club Book 6: Their Wicked Ways by Willow Dixon

Crimson Club Book 6

A year ago I lost everything and moved across the country to try and start over. It wasn’t easy, but I found a job I love, I have friends who’ve become my family, and I’m ready to start exploring my bisexuality.

Just when I think things are finally starting to go my way, I show up to work and find out the new guys on the crew are the super-hot couple I hooked up with last weekend.

F*ck. My. Life.

Now I’m stuck spending my days with the men who not only popped my dude cherry, but the ones I can’t stop thinking about.

The ones I have to try and be friends with after they awakened a part of me I didn’t even know was there.

The ones I can never have again.

Until one night turns into two, then more.

Being with Ezra and Wesley feels right, even if everything I was taught tells me it’s wrong. I can’t deny the pull between us, or how safe and seen they make me feel.

But how can two men who love each other as much as Ez and Wes ever feel the same for me?
********
My Review: 5/5 Stars
Over a year ago Jett was kicked out of his religious, essentially cult like family and community. It’s a freedom he desperately needed and wanted but he still feels the sting of realizing his family didn’t love him the way they should and their teachings were more harmful than not. But he has found a pretty good place. And he is finally getting to learn more about himself and explore his bisexuality. And his first hook up? A couple of guys who are confident in who they are and their relationship to add a third to their hook ups once in a while. But none of them expect the chemistry or the feelings that spark between them after that one night. Or the fact that when Jett heads to work Monday morning, Ezra and Wes have joined their construction team. Jett isn’t sure what to do or how to act but he can’t deny that he feels something for them but he knows their rules. Or does he? Wes and Ezra have been together for so long. They know they are one another’s endgames and are confident in their relationship and how they explore their time together. But both can admit that Jett was something they never expected. To have feelings for someone besides one another? Unreal. But as always they are on the same page. And that page is to not let Jett go. But can they convince him that their feelings for him are as real and true as they have for one another? Jett, Ezra, and Wes had such great chemistry! These guys are just so sweet and they fit in a way that just made so much sense. I adored their story. Just another great addition to this series! Especially when we get to see our favorite characters constantly appearing. Such a fun series and you don’t want to miss this one!

The Games We Play Book 1: Red Line by LA Witt

The Games We Play Book 1

Theo Mathis doesn’t regret defying the general manager during his brief stint on the Seattle Rainiers last season. The rainbow tape on his stick cost him dearly, but he’d do it again in a heartbeat… even though it means he’ll never get called up from the minors again while that GM is at the helm.

Then a flood of injuries leaves Seattle desperate for players, and Theo gets called up after all. But he’s provoke the GM again, and he will regret it.

Except stick tape wasn’t the only line Theo skated over, and the temptation to cross it again has nothing to do with spite.

Equipment manager Christian Hayes has had that hot minor league player living rent-free in his head ever since they hooked up last year. It wasn’t love, but it was fun, and he wishes they could do it again because they want to—not as an act of rebellion. If Christian’s dad ever finds out, there will be hell to pay. But it’s a non-issue, since his dad—the team’s GM—has vowed to never call up that player again no matter how bad the team needs him… and he doesn’t even know Theo and Christian hooked up.

Now Theo’s back in the Rainiers’ locker room. They don’t dare risk a rematch—they both value their careers too much. All they have to do is ride this out for a few games until Theo’s sent back down. Easy enough. Right?

But their mutual attraction refuses to be ignored.

And it looks like Theo’s going to be staying a while.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Theo has waited patiently to be brought up to the Seattle Rainers. Being in the minors is great, but to level up? Even better. And the time has come. But is gone just as quick. The day he is brought up is Pride Night and he is pumped but when the homophone general manager cancels the night in a screw you to everyone who identifies as queer, including his own son, who is one of the equipment managers, well Theo can’t sit back and do nothing. Theo has had a crush on Christian for a long time and to see his disappointment for the stunt his dad pulled in addition to his actions against Pride Night, he is going to take a stand. So he asks for the rainbow tape and the team is quick to follow. But the GM learns it was Theo’s idea and he is quick to throw Theo back down the minors with a threat he will remain there forever and Theo’s career is in his hands. Now a year later, the team has faced enough injuries that there is no choice but for Theo to move back up. And to see Christian again. After they hooked up last season. Theo and Christian know both their careers would be at stake if they hook up again, but neither of them have ever felt the pull that they have to one another. It’s a risk they are willing to take. Because neither are ready to give the other up. I loved Theo and Christian! Their chemistry was off the charts. The love between one another was so clear to see as they continued to see one another. And though they debated calling things off time after time, neither could let the other go. I really enjoyed this story and this hockey team. I am definitely looking forward to more stories in this series with these other authors! This was a great way to kick the series off.

Blaise There are a few things I know for sure: I’m gay, I want to do costume design for film and television, and a supportive family is what other people have. Oh… and fate’s not my biggest fan. That’s fine, though—who needs fate? I’ve got friends I love, a welcoming community, and a plan. Graduate college? Check. Build up my portfolio? Whenever I can. Impress industry pros? Done. Save the money for my dream internship? Working on it. All I’ve gotta do is stick with the plan, and that internship is mine next year. And then Jordan Marks walks into my life, and my plan turns into a loose guideline. Suddenly I’m learning about baseball and giving away shifts at work so I can watch him play. My goals are the same, but maybe there’s room in them for the world’s sweetest athlete.

Jordan I’m pretty sure the gods of baseball don’t care if I wear a suit on game day, but Franklin U and Coach do, so when mine rips, replacing it is an urgent mission. That’s how I meet Blaise Warner and my “I guess I could be bi” musings become full-blown “I wanna learn to handle a bat” demands. Blaise is smart, talented, and has goals… and he’s more than happy to teach me a new batting style. But as we go from casual to more, the things I never mentioned—like my dads’ connections in the entertainment industry—become heavy secrets. Plus, while our friends know we’re dating, nobody else does. That’s not fair to Blaise, but do I really want to be the latest queer college ball player? I don’t get a chance to figure it all out before things fall apart, and now we both have to decide what our real priorities are.

eNotorious_Leslie

IOU, Book 5

Picking up your favorite adult film star at a bar in Vegas is a bad idea—especially when you wake up the next morning married to him. Ask me how I know.

Before I met Velvet the Cowboy, the public knew me as an innocuous guy who was running for office.

Now I’ve gone from boring to notorious in twenty-four hours.

The hot stranger’s ring on my finger puts a damper on my political ambitions, since his day job isn’t voter-friendly. An annulment is a no-go, and a quickie divorce would make me look unreliable.

In any case, when I find out Velvet’s dark plans, I know I can’t let him out of my sight. Which means I’m taking a gorgeous, 6’6”, slow-talking cowboy home with me to protect him from himself.

Being with him might light my career on fire. I’m just not expecting it to do the same to my heart.

Notorious is a stand-alone contemporary romance about Johnny Haskell, a cowboy turned adult star who stops to pet every good dog (and they’re all good dogs), and Kurt Delmont, a senatorial candidate who wants to save the world. It features recovery from a mental health crisis, healing from old wounds, and love that takes these two by surprise. This book contains sensitive themes; a detailed description of the contents is in the author’s note in the book preview. Happily ever after guaranteed.

Excerpt:

Velvet gazes at me with concern as he, too, appears to be putting the night together. At least, that’s how I interpret the scrunch of his nose. His sleepy eyes register genuine bewilderment. “Hey, darlin’,” he whispers, his iconic voice deep, with a hint of a drawl. “Are you okay?” He rubs his temples. “I … don’t know,” I admit, drawing my knees to my chest and wrapping my hands around my calves. As I do, I notice something amiss. Well, something else amiss. My naked companion nods, as if my words make perfect sense. “Yeah. Last night must’ve been wild, since I’m not entirely sure how I got back here.” His eyes dart to his left hand, and he squints. “What in tarnation?” Then he looks at my hand at the same time I pull it up to my face to inspect it. A ring circles the fourth finger. A shiny platinum band without any scratches or dings. I don’t wear a ring on that hand. I don’t wear jewelry, period. I glance back at Velvet and confirm that he’s got a ring on his fourth finger, too. I blink. He blinks. I furrow my brow. He does the same. “Um,” I rasp, staring at my ring, then gesturing to his. “Do you know where these came from?” Velvet starts to shake his head and then frowns. A light dawns in his now fully awake eyes. He cocks his head as he studies his hand. He blows out his cheeks, then releases the air. “Well, heck,” he says. “I think we might be hitched. What’s your name again?

My Review: 5/5 Stars

An epic conclusion to this series! I feel like it has been a while since I have picked up a series and was so drawn to it the way I was for this one. I couldn’t put it down. And now I’ve reached the end. A beautiful and satisfying ending! This is Carter and Gavin’s story and it was just as wonderful as the previous books. We follow Carter as he searches for Gavin. After Gavin sacrificed himself to keep Carter and the rest of their pack safe, Carter realizes what everyone else has seen for a long time. Gavin is Cater’s mate. And Carter can’t let him go. So like his siblings, he chooses to do something drastic to save the one he loves. He cuts off ties and searches for Gavin. And though it takes him nearly a year, almost loses himself, he finally does. It isn’t easy to bring them both home and once they do, they’ll finally have time to see and explore what is between them. But they don’t have as much time as one would hope. Not when Robert Livingstone is still out there and he is making plans. A final battle is on the way and it will take everyone in the Bennett pack working together to slay this final monster. Loved, loved, this story. I absolutely adored Carter and Gavin. I love all of these characters and seeing how they all have grown. I’m going to miss this series so much. It’s been a wild ride.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

In the aftermath of Heartsong, we get Elizabeth’s point of view on her thoughts on what happened, the past, and the future she will be fighting for. Again, just love getting another point of view after the ending that was Heartsong. Definitely worth checking out if you are loving this series as much as I am and want just a bit more before heading into the final book!

My Review: 5/5 Stars

This was a sweet short story following the events of Heartsong. We follow Carter, Kelly, Joe, and Gavin in the aftermath and the feralsong that sings to them. I loved reading their point of views after the ending in Heartsong. So much happened and it was nice to get in their heads to see their thoughts and what they are thinking before we head into the final book.

Green Creek Book 3: Heartsong by TJ Klune

My Review: 5/5 Stars

What drew me to this story and series originally was artwork of it I saw on Instagram. A short comic that spoiled a scene in this book (though I wouldn’t know what it means until I read the book) and when I saw it, I just had to know what this story was. Who were these characters and what happened to them. And I finally made it to this book to find out.

I devoured this book. I could not put it down. I get why so many say this is their favorite of the series. Or why it was so heartbreaking. What an emotional rollercoaster this book. I will try not to spoil too much but only read ahead if you have read the series so far at the very least. Immediately when you start the book, you realize that something is wrong. Something isn’t right. But maybe you aren’t sure just yet because the book…where does it start? Is it the very beginning of Robbie’s story long before we met him? Or is it later? And you start to realize that it is today and something went very wrong. Something happened to Robbie’s memories. And he is very far from home. It will take a lot to bring Robbie back to his family, his pack, and most importantly, his mate. Kelly. A lot has happened to this pack in between the last book and where they are now. Some good but a whole lot of bad too. The good news is, is that this story is worth it. Push through the bad and see how they come together again. But this pack has some enemies to fight and it will take all of them together, united, to defeat them. I adored this book as much as it broke my heart over and over again. Robbie has been through a lot and it isn’t over. But he is trying. He is trying so hard to figure out the truths and what is missing. Their world and story only gets more interesting and I am immediately reaching for the next book because I have to know how this story ends. Loved, loved this book. I am loving this series. You definitely need to pick this one up!

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Definitely read this after the first two books of the Green Creek series so you don’t get spoilers! But this was a sweet short story told by Elizabeth Bennett of so many key moments that have been before the series began and just past Ravensong. I loved getting just a little piece of her thoughts and feelings in her point of view. Plus some new things we haven’t seen. You don’t want to miss this special short story if you love this series!

Green Creek Book 2: Ravensong by TJ Klune

Green Creek Book 2

The Bennett family has a secret: They're not just a family, they're a pack. Ravensong is Gordo Livingstone's story.

Gordo Livingstone never forgot the lessons carved into his skin. Hardened by the betrayal of a pack that left him behind, he sought solace in the garage in his tiny mountain town, vowing never again to involve himself in the affairs of wolves.

It should have been enough.

It was, until the wolves came back, and with them, Mark Bennett. And when his town is caught in the jaws of a beast, Gordo is summoned back into the life that left him.

“Gordo, you must rise. For your pack. For us. I must ask you to become the witch to the wolves.”

Now, a year later, Gordo has once again found himself the witch of the Bennett pack. Green Creek has settled after the death of Richard Collins, and Gordo constantly struggles to ignore Mark and the song that howls between them.

But time is running out. Something is coming. And this time, it’s coming from within.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

This series is so good and I am only book two, knowing that there are another two books to go. But wow! I never expected to be so invested in this series, but book one drew me in and now book two even more. We are getting Gordo and Mark’s story and ugh, is it full of heartbreak. What the two of them have been through has been so much and it just gets harder. They deserve their happy ending. Though the story picks up where the last one left off, we don’t start there just yet. First we need to go back to when Gordo was a kid and revisit a few other points in time that shaped him. Especially the three years he left with a few others of the pack. From the time Gordo was a child he knew he would be the Bennett witch. He was trained, as hard and painful as it was, to be that for them. He believed in Bennett wolves. He believed in Mark. The boy two years older than him, who made him feel so much, who would his mate. But then the bad things come. And choices are made. And Gordo is left behind. By his parents, by his Alpha, and then by his mate. And it hurts. It hurts and hurts and they don’t come back despite the promises. And when Mark does, it isn’t enough. And so he pushes them and the pain away. And they stay away. Until they don’t. Until one day, they return and things change all over again. And even when things settle and a year passes from their first challenge, Richard Collins, more awaits them. And this time, it isn’t as easy to stop. And the fight is only just beginning. Loved this story. Loved getting to know Gordo more. Loved him finding his way back to Mark. I love how everyone knows that these two just need to get out of their own way (specifically Gordo) and just be together and happy. But of course it is never that easy. So much is going on in this world and on their land. And even once you get through this story, problems still need to be solved. This book was just so so good and I can’t wait for the next one!

Bainbridge Hockey Book 2: Penalty Kill by Andi Burns

Bainbridge Hockey Book 2

Penalty Kill is a college hockey romance with a playboy hero who gets a second chance with the girl he never got over.

Van

I have one final season at Bainbridge University to show the scouts what I’ve got before I shoot my shot as a free agent and try to make it in the pros.

The only thing standing between me and the hockey career I’ve worked my ass off for is the class schedule straight out of my nightmares.

There’s no way I’m passing these courses. But if I fail, I can kiss my future goodbye.

The only hope I have is the tutor Coach had assigned to me.

She’s perfect. A dream come true. The answer to my prayers.

And she’s also my ex.

Josie

I’ve spent three years avoiding Beckett Vandaele III. If he turns left, I take a right. If he’s at the coffee shop, I find another place to study.

But when his name lands on my tutoring roster, there’s nowhere for me to run.

I can’t hide from the secrets I’ve kept, and I can’t pretend Van doesn’t exist.

It won’t be so bad, at least that’s what I tell myself. I’ll treat this like any other tutoring job—I’ll be professional and detached.

Except it doesn’t happen that way. Van’s just as irresistible now as he was when we were freshmen. It’s too easy to fall back in love with him, and I know from experience that only leads to heartache.

*

Penalty Kill is the second book in the Bainbridge U Hockey series, but it can be enjoyed as a standalone. If you love cocky heroes with a vulnerable side, smart-as-hell heroines, and lots of steam, get ready to fall in love with Van and Josie.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Been waiting patiently for Josie and Van’s story after reading the previous book. You can’t help but wonder what happened to these two and why they aren’t together anymore. And now we finally got an answer. Freshmen year these two met and instantly connected. But the two of them dating only lasted a little while before things broke and the two couldn’t look at the other without pain. Both keeping secrets about themselves and both too young to know much about relationships. So they spent the next three years doing their best to avoid one another. But truth is, the two of them were very much in love with the other. And moving was never so simple. But when Van’s grades are slipping and threatening his hockey career, he finds himself assigned to one of the best tutors: Josie. Now they’ll have to face their past in order to get their futures back on track. And maybe just maybe they can finally solve the issues between them. I loved Van and Josie. Neither of these two have had it easy. And it’s sad that they waited so long to just communicate about how they feel and what was going on with them. Josie lost her parents and her older brother and her became the parents essentially for their many younger siblings. They work hard to provide for their siblings and raise them. And it isn’t always easy. Meanwhile, Van has a pretty rough learning disability, and no matter how hard he tries, it isn’t always easy to figure out solutions to his classes. And one thing he wants more than anything is just to finish college and get to the pros. These two just deserve to be happy and get everything they want. And it was sweet to watch them fall in love again. The book also had just so many funny moments between them and the famous hockey house where Van lives with his teammates. A really fun hockey college book! And you don’t want to miss this latest story in the series.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
