The Folk of the Air Series Book 2: The Wicked King by Holly Black

The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2)
The Folk of the Air Series Book 2
The enchanting and bloodthirsty sequel to the New York Times bestselling novel The Cruel Prince.

You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.

The first lesson is to make yourself strong.

After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.

When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Just when I thought I had a chance of figuring out the lies and deceits that comes with being in Faerie, I still don't see half of what is coming. Wow! The Wicked King is a fantastic follow up to The Cruel Prince and I need it to be next year already so I can get my hands on the final book The Queen of Nothing. This book was fantastic. Jude's hold on Cardan is running out. She is halfway into their bargain and she is determined to keep the power she has gained. But the problem is how? While the demands of being the one in power is draining her, she can't seem to let it go. The politics, the threats from the Undersea, the threat of a betrayal of someone she trusts, the threats toward her life, and her unwanted feelings toward Cardan, have her drowning in exhaustion. The stakes are high in this book and I could not put it down. And come on, I just had to know what Cardan and Jude actually feel for one another. And boy, is there a lot of feelings. This book was just so freaking good!! Plot twists on plot twists! And that ending!!!! Waiting will be torture.
