Ever since last year’s homecoming dance, best friends-turned-best enemies Zorie and Lennon have made an art of avoiding each other. It doesn’t hurt that their families are the modern day, Californian version of the Montagues and Capulets.
But when a group camping trip goes south, Zorie and Lennon find themselves stranded in the wilderness. Alone. Together.
What could go wrong?
With no one but each other for company, Zorie and Lennon have no choice but to hash out their issues via witty jabs and insults as they try to make their way to safety. But fighting each other while also fighting off the forces of nature makes getting out of the woods in one piece less and less likely.
And as the two travel deeper into Northern California’s rugged backcountry, secrets and hidden feelings surface. But can Zorie and Lennon’s rekindled connection survive out in the real world? Or was it just a result of the fresh forest air and the magic of the twinkling stars?

My Review: 5/5 Stars
SO FREAKING GOOD! Seriously Jenn Bennett is an awesome writer. The first book I read by her was Alex, Approximately and I fell so in love with her writing and her characters. And was super excited to read Starry Eyes and it was so worth the wait! The storyline was awesome, the characters even more, and set in California in the woods that made me want to stop stalling and pick up my backpack and finally go camping was a seriously strong feeling. As soon as spring makes an appearance I am so there!
Starry Eyes follows the story of Zorie and Lennon. Our nerdy astrophysicist with a bit of an anxiety and control problems and the let's dress in black all the time, read graphic novels, and a secret outdoors expert, are our couple who you will be cheering for the entire book! Because how can they not be together? Bennett touches upon so many relatable and very real issues. How one miscommunication to lack of communication can lead to a earth shattering change. To how we all have anxiety, yet sometimes there are those who have it as proof on their skin. And how we lose our loved ones to tragedy or just plain stupidity.
Zorie and Lennon are thrown on a camping trip with those who aren't really their friends. After an epic drama filled argument, their "friends" leave them stranded in the woods. Instead of letting the jerks win, they decide that they are going to hike the woods, climb some mountains, and make it to the Star Party to see a meteor shower. On their adventure, they finally let out all the hurt and mixed feelings and confusion that they have faced since ignoring one another almost a year before. Truths are revealed and they slowly find their way back to one another. Though there is plenty, especially at home, threatening to keep them apart.
What I loved about this book was that it wasn't predictable. There were so many twists and turns, that it kept you on your toes. When you think you figured one thing out, another secret is revealed and you wonder what will happen next. Their banter is witty and hilarious to follow. And their connection is their own sparkling star in the night. If you love Jenn Benntt's writing, you will love this story. And if you have never read her before, I seriously recommend it! Great, great story.
