A Valiant novel Book 2: The Defiant by Lesley Livingston

The Defiant (The Valiant, #2)
A Valiant Novel Book 2

The darling of the Roman Empire is in for the fight of her life.

Be brave, gladiatrix… And be wary. Once you win Caesar’s love, you’ll earn his enemies’ hate.

Fallon was warned.

Now she is about to pay the price for winning the love of the Roman people as Caesar’s victorious gladiatrix.

In this highly anticipated sequel to THE VALIANT, Fallon and her warrior sisters find themselves thrust into a vicious conflict with a rival gladiator academy, one that will threaten not only Fallon’s heart – and her love for Roman soldier Cai – but the very heart of the ancient Roman Empire.

When dark treachery and vicious power struggles threaten her hard-won freedom, the only thing that might help the girl known as Victrix save herself and her sisters is a tribe of long-forgotten mythic Amazon warriors.

The only trouble is, they might just kill her themselves first.

My Review 5/5 Stars

Book 2 of the series and it was even better than the first one! I really loved The Valiant when I first read it. As a Classics major anything with Greece and Rome always catches my attention. Throw in some Celtic and a whole load of mythology, well that is an easy way to win my heart. Fallon's journey as a gladiatrix continues. And this books takes us on quite an adventure. When the Ludas Achillea falls under siege and is taken by Potius Aquila, Fallon and Cai along with her fellow sisters of Ludas Achillea are branded traitors and Fallon's sister Sorcha is taken away to be sacrificed by one they considered friend. Determined to save her sister and retake Ludas Achillea, Fallon leads her companions on a mission that will have adventure, loss, and betrayal.

I really enjoyed this book. If you liked the first one, then I truly believe you will love this even more. It has been a while since I had read the first one, but the more I read the more I remembered what had occurred and who everyone was. I still loved Fallon and Cai. Their relationship grows and is tested throughout the book, but it only makes them stronger. The fights and plot twists of this book will keep you reading to discover it all. A great book and I am looking forward to the third one!
