Court of the Sea Fae Book 1: Dark King by C.N. Crawford

Court of the Sea Fae Book 1

A snarky fae, a sexy king, and forbidden desire deep as the sea.

Once, I was a fae princess with sea-magic at my fingertips. Now? I’m a hunted supernatural in a squalid shop, stripped of my power. My only comforts are stale cookies, Elvis records, and my hula-hoop. Until a lethally sexy fae king arrives and rips even those away.

After the brutal king throws me in prison, I strike a bargain with him: my freedom in exchange for helping him find a magic blade. What Lyr doesn’t know is that the blade might restore my stolen magic.

But as we journey, the gorgeous jerk is starting to make me feel things I’ve never felt. When Lyr touches me, desire ignites. I see raging passion in his eyes, too. If I give in, I risk losing my chance at reclaiming my power. Even worse... I could be forfeiting my life.

My Review: 3/5 Stars

Aenor is a fae princess in hiding after her kingdom drowned many, many years ago. She spends her time basically as a vigilante. She takes out bad guys and has a magical shop with a human girl she rescued a few years ago. But when two fae assassins come knocking on her door, everything changes. She is able to kill one but turns out the other one is a bit of a demigod and he can’t die. But he isn’t looking to kill her just yet. He needs her help finding a magical artifact. And turns out the artifact connects to her fallen kingdom. Aenor soon realizes that supernaturals have a twisted view of her kingdom. Stories say it was her that destroyed her own kingdom aka not the truth. Aenor remembers someone killing her mother, taking her powers, and drowning the kingdom. Can she convince Lyr, the fae who needs her help, of the truth? And yet there is a lot more going on that it first appears. Definitely an interesting story. I’m a bit curious to the rest of the books.

Roommate by Sarina Bowen

Wanted: One roommate to share a 3-bedroom house, split the rent, and ideally not be the guy I can’t stop thinking about.

I’m a man with too many secrets, so the last thing I need is a new roommate with a sexy smile and blue eyes that see right through me. Eight years ago, Roderick left town after high school. We’re not friends. I owe him nothing. But back then, I let one of my secrets slip, and he’s the only one who noticed.

Part of me knows I should run far, far away. But the other part wants him to come upstairs and spend the night. But if I let him in, I could lose everything.

Seeking: a room to rent in town. I’m tidy, have no pets, and I will feed you homemade bread.

I should probably add: Gay AF, and has no filter. It’s no wonder my new landlord is so wary of me.

A smarter man would ignore those hot glances from Kieran Shipley. The broody lumberjack wants more from me than another fresh-baked pretzel. But if I push my luck, I’ll end up back on the street.

Too bad I’ve never been smart with my heart…

My Review: 5/5 Stars

This book was so good! I love the World of True North from Sarina Bowen. She has a great cast of characters and now we get Kieran's story! And it was FULL of surprises. Kieran is the quietest Shipley. He doesn't say much and mostly keeps to himself. But you won't find someone who works harder than him and who is willing to help out. But he has kept a lot to himself over the years making him a very private person. Even with his own family. But with that privacy comes loneliness. He knows it, but it really comes to light when Roderick comes home. Roderick ran from home when he was eighteen. His parents couldn't deal with him being gay and he just wanted to be away and free to be himself. But he returns home eight years later after leaving a relationship that was more harm than good. Now he is back in Vermont and trying to start over. Maybe this time he can get it right. What he doesn't expect is Kieran. They have a super brief history from high school (one that Kieran hopes is left in the past) but this time they get a chance to truly know one another when Kieran needs a roommate after finally getting out of his parents' house. And it isn't long before things start between them. The thing about Kieran is that because he is so private and constantly working many jobs and dealing with tough complications with his parents, he never had a chance to figure out who is he is and what he wants in life. And Roderick entering Kieran's life, he gets a chance to finally figure it out. And Roderick is so comfortable with who he is, but he has a track record at bad relationships and just wants to find someone to love and who will love him in return. They just become perfect for one another.

I loved Kieran and Roderick's relationship. First off, as individuals they are awesome and hysterical. Especially Roderick. There were SO many good one liners from him that had me cracking up and were just so freaking relatable when it comes to crushing on someone. And, together the chemistry was great. They were opposites in so many ways but they brought out the best in one another. You could see Kieran opening up for once and getting a chance to be who he is. The story as a whole just had so much to give. And there were such good plot twists that made the book unpredictable. You may think it was following some predictable trope until it gives you the twist that has you say oh, wait a second, what!? Really great story. Just another great addition to this world. And it also hints at the other series that will be coming out soon that are in the World of True North. I can't wait!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Bargainer Series Book 3: Dark Harmony by Laura Thalassa

Dark Harmony (The Bargainer, #3)
The Bargainer Book 3

There are worse things than death. Things that lurk in the shadows and slip into your dreams. Things that have no business existing. Things that once slept … but have now awoken.

For Callypso Lillis, the fae magic that now runs through her veins is equal parts curse and good fortune. For the very thing that bonds her to Desmond Flynn, the King of the Night, also makes her vulnerable to the Thief of Souls, a man who wants to break the world … and Callie along with it.

But it’s not just the Thief whose shadow looms over the Otherworld. Des’s father is back from the dead, and he wants revenge on the son who sent him to the grave in the first place.

Des and Callie must figure out how to stop both men, and time is running out. Because there are forces at play working to tear the lovers apart once and for all … and unfortunately for them, death is no longer the worst thing to fear.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

To say I zoomed through this series would be an understatement. I sped right through this series, it was so good. So in this last book, Callie is dealing with the aftereffects of falling into the Their of Souls plans but allowing Des to save her. But it isn't all bad. With that change, she is fully bonded to Des and it comes with some surprising perks that she can get behind. The final battles are coming. And Callie and Des must figure out how to defeat the Thief of Souls and Des's father. So many twists and turns in this book. Plus such great moments between Des and Callie when they are able to take time for themselves away from the fight and constant destruction. This was a great end to the trilogy. Adventure, romance, and like I said twists and turns that keep you on your toes. Especially when it came to the mystery of who exactly is the Thief of Souls. This world created by Thalassa is quite a unique and interesting one and now I'm off to see if she wrote any other series that takes place in this world! Great, great series!

The Bargainer Series Book 2.5: The Emperor of Evening Stars by Laura Thalassa

The Emperor of Evening Stars (The Bargainer, #2.5)
The Bargainer Book 2.5

In the beginning, there was darkness.
Before he met Callie, before he became the Bargainer, there was Desmond Flynn, the bastard son of a scribe. A boy born to a weak mother, cursed with little magic, and destined to marry a slave.

But fate had something else in mind.

Till darkness dies.
From the barren caves of Arestys to the palace of Somnia to the streets of earth, this is how Desmond Flynn, a fairy who began with nothing, became the Emperor of Evening Stars.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Des's story! So after reading the first two books in this series, we jump back to learn more about Des. And this book really gives great insight to his life, even starting with a single prologue chapter of his mother's decision to run. Then the story jumps to key moments in Des's life. His mother's death, his first meeting with his father, his time with Malaki, his big battle against his father. Then it takes to key moments when he comes to Earth after deciding he has to find his mate. The years are many and a lot happens. But the story continues to when he meets Callie and follows some memorable moments that we first saw through Callie's eyes but now through Des's. Plus some we never saw! Then it is only a few key chapters that lead up to how the previous book ended. Overall, it was a great collection of stories through Des's point of view. It gave us so many important bits of his life that showed us what shaped him and who he truly is. How strong his love for Callie is way before Callie realized it herself. I really enjoyed this book and now I'm very excited for the final book in the series.

The Bargainer Series Book 2: A Strange Hymn by Laura Thalassa

A Strange Hymn (The Bargainer, #2)
The Bargainer Book 2

Siren and soulmate to the King of Night, Callypso Lillis survived the clutches of Karnon, the mad king, and his twisted prison. But the nightmare isn’t over. Callie wears the physical reminders of her time as a captive, and mounting evidence suggests the Thief of Souls is still out there.

When a fae celebration thrusts Callie and her mate, Desmond Flynn, into the Kingdom of Flora, they take their investigation with them. But under the bright lights and striking blooms of the realm, they find there are more immediate issues to deal with. No place is more uniquely savage than the great fae halls, and no amount of bargains can save Callie from royal intrigues.

Fairies play dangerous games. Some want love, some want vengeance, some want flesh, and some want things too unspeakable to utter. One thing is for sure: no one is who they appear to be. Not even Des, who only grows more enigmatic with every passing secret.

But the Kingdom of Flora has its own secrets, from bleeding trees to branded slaves and missing guards. Something is stirring in the land of all that grows, and if Callie isn’t careful, it will claim everything and everyone she loves—and her along with it.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Things changed after Callie's time with the mad king, Karnon. The nightmare she endured is over but the results are with her forever. And even though the mad king is dead, Callie knows the fight isn't over. Those that are trapped in sleep didn't wake up, despite the death of Karnon, and now male fae are being taken. The Thief of Souls is still out there, but who is he? As Callie and Des adjust to their relationship as soulmates they must figure out the mystery behind the Thief of Souls, while also preparing to travel to Flora for the Solstice celebrations. A great follow up to the last story, we dive deeper into the Other World and the tales that surround all the kingdoms as well as getting a deeper look into Des's past. Really liked this story and I cannot wait to keep reading the rest of the books in the series.

The Bargainer Series Book 1: Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa

Rhapsodic (The Bargainer, #1)
The Bargainer Book 1

Callypso Lillis is a siren with a very big problem, one that stretches up her arm and far into her past. For the last seven years she’s been collecting a bracelet of black beads up her wrist, magical IOUs for favors she’s received. Only death or repayment will fulfill the obligations. Only then will the beads disappear.

Everyone knows that if you need a favor, you go to the Bargainer to make it happen. He’s a man who can get you anything you want... at a price. And everyone knows that sooner or later he always collects.

But for one of his clients, he’s never asked for repayment. Not until now. When Callie finds the fae king of the night in her room, a grin on his lips and a twinkle in his eye, she knows things are about to change. At first it’s just a chaste kiss—a single bead’s worth—and a promise for more.

For the Bargainer, it’s more than just a matter of rekindling an old romance. Something is happening in the Otherworld. Fae warriors are going missing one by one. Only the women are returned, each in a glass casket, a child clutched to their breast. And then there are the whispers among the slaves, whispers of an evil that’s been awoken.

If the Bargainer has any hope to save his people, he’ll need the help of the siren he spurned long ago. Only, his foe has a taste for exotic creatures, and Callie just happens to be one.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Seven years ago Callie called the feared Bargainer to make a deal. A while he was lenient and helped her out, Callie couldn't help but be drawn to him. Thus began the IOUs for each favor she called. For after her first deal all she wants to do is see him again...and again...and again. Until one day he leaves for good. But now, years later, the Bargainer is back and he is looking to collect his IOUs. All 300+ of them... Callie isn't sure what he wants but she also isn't sure if her heart can take it. Her teenage heart she fell him for him years ago and when he left her heart shattered and she closed herself off. But there is something different about him now. He isn't holding back. As she tries to figure out their relationship, something else is going on in the Otherworld. Fae warrior women are disappearing only to be brought back in glass caskets, asleep, and with a child in their arms. There is an evil in the Otherworld, but the question is who is it? And what does he want? This story was actually super intriguing. This world has a ton of supernaturals. Callie herself is a siren, the Bargainer is a Fae King, and there are a few other supernaturals you meet. The lore is half of what pulled me in. The other half is all Callie and the Bargainer aka Des. Their history and romance and their relationship were great. The story flips from present day to the past and how they met up to when Des has to leave. The book has tough themes but strong characters. I picked it up and couldn't put it down. And this is just the beginning. I'm looking forward to book two and the rest of the series.

Now I need a job, because this gel manicure won’t upkeep itself. The only available option is the last one I’d ever want--a job as the hockey team’s equipment manager. My plan is to do the bare minimum, get paid, and find my way back into my father’s good graces.

My Review: 4/5 Stars

Karen M. McManus has had really great mystery YA books and The Cousins is just another great one to add to the collection. There are always a bunch of plot twists that no matter how hard you try to figure out  chances are you aren't going to get it on your first try. I kept making guesses as I was reading and I was always slightly off. So this story follows Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah. They are the story cousins that barely know one another and have never met their grandmother who has invited them to her island resort for the summer. Their parents were all cut off from their grandparents over twenty years earlier and none of them know why. They believe sending their kids to their grandmother will finally get them in her good graces. But there is so much more going on there than any of them could have imagined. And Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah have their own secrets to keep. I can't say too much without spoiling since there were some twists early on in the book. But this book keeps you hooked. You can't help trying to solve each mystery that appears and figure out the truth of what happened to this dysfunctional family. Really great story and I can't wait to read more of McManus's future books.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Yay! Finally Fin and Maggie's story! It's been a long time coming and it was great! Maggie and Fin have danced around one another since the very beginning. And though they were in denial, everyone else knew there were definitely sparks between the two of them. And in the previous book Maggie had left for a new adventure. Now she is back and things have changed. First off, Maggie has changed. She went through a horrible thing in England and instead of telling anyone, she kept it in believing that she could move past it. She survived, surely that was enough. It wasn't. As soon as she enters Ryker Falls Fin is the first person she sees and he notices right away. Her spark is gone and that is not okay with Fin. Fin is starting to wake up and realize that Maggie may just be the one for him and when she returns he knows something has happened. Now he just needs to figure out what it is and to get her to open up to him. And if that wasn't enough, Fin finds remains in the woods and evidence shows that there could have been a murder at Ryker Falls. But is the killer still around? Maggie and Fin are just perfect for one another. I loved reading their story. It was a long time coming and it was perfect. I adore this series and I cannot wait for more!

My Review: 5/5 Stars

The end! We have finally made it to the end of this series and let me tell you I was petrified for this book. First off, I should have re-read the previous books before this since it has been so long but like I did with the previous book I did not. But! It came back to me soon enough. It is just one series that is hard to forget. The book in a word was amazing. Truly. A really great end to the series though I will admit there was one particular thing that I did not like and I wish was written differently. I won't say because I don't want to spoil anything. But it was one thing I was worried about and unfortunately it happened. But besides that and even reading the ending I was still content with this story. We are at the end of Elias, Laia, and Helene's story. Each have such a strong role to play and each suffer and endure. Their pain becomes their strength and each rise to save their world. Their journeys long and hard but those three (and a few others) are such favorite characters of mine. And this story just had me hooked chapter by chapter and I hit a point where I didn't know who's point of view I preferred, which I think really is a compliment to the author. Sabaa Tahir gave us quite an amazing series and I sad it is over. Amazing and done so well. I really don't want to spoil so with that said, if you have stuck with the series this far, finish it. It is worth it. These characters deserve to have the rest of their stories told. Great, great book!

Now I’m back, and the tables are turned. Posy runs a struggling pie shop. I’m the VP of a secretive billion-dollar security company.
Not that I can tell her.
There’s a murderer on the loose in New York, and he seems to spend a lot of time at Posy’s shop. It’s my job to identify him before he can harm a hair on her pretty head.
Going undercover as Posy’s new barista wasn’t my idea. I don’t even drink coffee. But now I have to call her “boss,” and do everything the curvy perfectionist asks of me. I’d forgotten how much we infuriate each other, and that she somehow fills me with both irritation and desire in the same breath.
There’s nobody more skilled at stealth ops than me. I can bring this killer down. Right after I take a cold shower. And just as soon I figure out how to make a skinny peppermint latte with milk poured in the shape of a kitten...

My Review: 5/5 Stars

I am loving this series! Honestly, anything by Sarina Bowen is a good book. So this is the second book in The Company series and it follows Gunnar. The right hand man of Max who is currently in charge of the security group. Gunnar is brought back to New York to help Max with a big mission. Max believes that he has a lead that will lead them to a dangerous man that Max has been after for a very long time. The connections are subtle and possibly just coincidence, but Max doesn't believe so. Either way, Gunnar has his back and will do his job. Yet, this isn't his normal job. One, he has to be a barista and for a guy who doesn't drink coffee, well that's a bit of a problem. And two, the job will be for someone who he hasn't seen in fifteen years. Basically the girl that got away. Posy is having a rough time as it is. She's been divorced a year now to an ex who is a jerk and his young girlfriend. All she wants is to keep her business afloat. And she never expects Gunnar to walk back into her life asking for a job. The chemistry between them has always been there, but when Posy first met Gunnar, she knew she wasn't ready for him just yet. Despite the one amazing kiss they shared. But all these years later she starts to wonder if she can find the confidence to make a move and not miss her chance. I love Gunnar and Posy, such great characters and a great couple. I also love The Company. So intriguing and an excellent set of characters. These books keep you hooked with their spy like mysteries and amazing romance. I couldn't put the book down and I cannot wait for the next one!

My Review: 5/5 Stars

SO SO GOOD! This is definitely a favorite of mine for the series. And for so many reasons. First off, love coming back to a story that focuses on Blay and Qhuinn. Their original story was so tough and this one had so many challenges as well but they faced things together. So we got to see where they are at as a couple and with their kids. We got more focus on Zadist this story as well. He was our other primary point of view when it wasn't Blay or Qhuinn. I loved seeing how far he has come because he was another great character I loved. One of the things I loved about this book was that we got to check in and see a lot of people in the mansion. We don't always get a lot of them but this book did a nice job of giving us quite a few who shone for a moment. This book was one of the emotional ones. Everything in life is pretty good until tragedy strikes and throws everyone for a loop. But together, this house filled with so many are just one big family. I don't want to give anything away, but this book was great and had lots of surprises, good and bad. I could not put it down. And of course the banter between everyone is on point and I laughed so hard, which is no surprise. If you loved Blay and Qhuinn, you will love this story because as you know we finally get a mating ceremony and watching them get there was wonderful. Love this series so much and I cannot wait for the next book!
