The Cousins by Karen M. McManus

The Cousins

Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah Story are cousins, but they barely know each another, and they've never even met their grandmother. Rich and reclusive, she disinherited their parents before they were born. So when they each receive a letter inviting them to work at her island resort for the summer, they're surprised... and curious.

Their parents are all clear on one point—not going is not an option. This could be the opportunity to get back into Grandmother's good graces. But when the cousins arrive on the island, it's immediately clear that she has different plans for them. And the longer they stay, the more they realize how mysterious—and dark—their family's past is.

The entire Story family has secrets. Whatever pulled them apart years ago isn't over—and this summer, the cousins will learn everything.

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of One of Us Is Lying comes your next obsession. You'll never feel the same about family again.

My Review: 4/5 Stars

Karen M. McManus has had really great mystery YA books and The Cousins is just another great one to add to the collection. There are always a bunch of plot twists that no matter how hard you try to figure out  chances are you aren't going to get it on your first try. I kept making guesses as I was reading and I was always slightly off. So this story follows Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah. They are the story cousins that barely know one another and have never met their grandmother who has invited them to her island resort for the summer. Their parents were all cut off from their grandparents over twenty years earlier and none of them know why. They believe sending their kids to their grandmother will finally get them in her good graces. But there is so much more going on there than any of them could have imagined. And Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah have their own secrets to keep. I can't say too much without spoiling since there were some twists early on in the book. But this book keeps you hooked. You can't help trying to solve each mystery that appears and figure out the truth of what happened to this dysfunctional family. Really great story and I can't wait to read more of McManus's future books.
