Stream Raiders Book 1: These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch

These Rebel Waves (Stream Raiders, #1)
Stream Raiders Book 1

Adeluna is a soldier. Five years ago, she helped the magic-rich island of Grace Loray overthrow its oppressor, Argrid, a country ruled by religion. But adjusting to postwar life has not been easy. When an Argridian delegate vanishes during peace talks with Grace Loray’s new Council, Argrid demands brutal justice—but Lu suspects something more dangerous is at work.

Devereux is a pirate. As one of the outlaws called stream raiders who run rampant on Grace Loray, he pirates the island’s magic plants and sells them on the black market. But after Argrid accuses raiders of the diplomat’s abduction, Vex becomes a target. An expert navigator, he agrees to help Lu find the Argridian—but the truth they uncover could be deadlier than any war.

Benat is a heretic. The crown prince of Argrid, he harbors a secret obsession with Grace Loray’s forbidden magic. When Ben’s father, the king, gives him the shocking task of reversing Argrid’s fear of magic, Ben has to decide if one prince can change a devout country—or if he’s building his own pyre.

As conspiracies arise, Lu, Vex, and Ben will have to decide who they really are . . . and what they are willing to become for peace.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Thank you Sara Raasch for what was probably the meanest cliffhanger ever!! And I have read my fair share of them. And before that painful cliffhanger you threw in some plot twists that had be literally gasping and shouting "NO FREAKING WAY!" Yeah, I got a bit into it. And yeah, the book was that good. I'll admit, it took me a bit of a way through to truly get into the story and understand all the information that was being thrown at me, but once it clicked, I was all in. And it helped that the characters were pretty awesome. Love Vex!! Could not get enough of him. The legendary pirate who's wit is just hysterical. And then there is kickass Lu. Who is a genius when it comes to plants and magic and could hold her own in a fight. And then our finally main character is Ben. Who it took me a bit to warm up to, but he finds his voice and he becomes someone worth listening to.

The story is great as it goes jumps from Lu, Vex, and Ben. Each have their own sad and even terrible pasts, but who strive to do good and try to find hope and peace in their home that is broken up and close to war once more. There are so many different types of people in this book and beliefs and it was super interesting to see the different sides and how they collide with one another. Everyone thinks they are right but what happens when reality comes crashing through, it forces you to think from another point of view. Something that Lu, Vex, and Ben learn. An adventurous book with love and hate and pirates and plot twists, and like I said a cliffhanger that makes me wish we could jump to next year for the second book. Definitely check this one out!

I received an ARC for an honest review.
