Adrenalin Book 3: Persistent by Michele Lenard

Adrenalin Book 3

Some thrills you chase. Others blindside you in a red plaid skirt and combat boots.

Axel - It was probably a little stalkerish to follow him to this office and pin him up against the wall before knowing his name, but in my defense, red is my favorite color.
And he made it look so good I found myself tempted to try eggplant for the first time.

Besides, it’s not like I was the only one looking.
He’d been not-so-discretely ogling me all afternoon, I just made the first move.
And the second.
And pretty much all the others until tragedy struck his hometown and he sought me out for comfort.

I knew after that first night one wouldn’t be enough, but when he turned to me in his moment of need, I was done for.
Too bad forever is the one thing Lennon doesn’t believe in.
He’s spent years building a life he controls—running his restaurant, protecting his heart, keeping everyone at arm’s length.
And me? I’m a professional dirt biker with no fixed address and no idea how to stay still.

We don’t make sense.
Not on paper. Not in real life.
But when he’s in my arms, nothing’s ever felt more right.

He thinks our timing’s all wrong.
But I think I finally found the place I want to land—and the man I want to stay for.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

This was definitely my favorite of the series so far! The chemistry between Lennon and Axel is undeniable the moment these two are the on page. From the moment these two meet, they can feel the spark between them. And it doesn’t take them long to explore their chemistry in the bedroom. But what surprises them both is how one night isn’t enough. Because even after they hook up, they just want to be around one and talk. Not that Lennon will admit it! Lennon grew up watching his mom flounder after his dad left her. And he swore never to be put in a position like that. Work is his life and he won’t stop his career for anyone. But Axel threatens to bring down his walls bit by bit. Is Lennon willing to let go even a bit for him? Axel has never felt what he has felt for Lennon. The fact that he was a guy didn’t even bother him. All he sees is Lennon and wants to be closer to him. And he’ll fight for him if Lennon lets him. Axel’s career takes him on the road a lot but for the first time he is truly thinking harder about calling a place home. He may have thought it before but Lennon gives him a whole new reason to consider it more. But can he convince Lennon that what they have is worth some compromise? Adored these two! They had a great connection and a lot more in common than either thought. But they fit so well together and balance one another out. I loved seeing them grow together and work their way to fighting for one another. Like I said, favorite of the series!

Synopsis

Fox

There are only three things in life I’m passionate about: my family, sports, and hating Archer Holloway.

He’s the most prolific associate at the firm and out earns everyone at our level. Plus, he’s annoyingly good-looking and is somehow able to charm everyone. Everyone except me.

His athlete roster might be impressive, but his tactics for signing clients can be questionable at best.

So, when the chance arises to stealthily pitch to someone he’s gunning for, I don’t hesitate.

Two can play at this game.

Archer

I don’t understand why Lincoln Fox hates me. Okay, so maybe I signed a few athletes he was pursuing, but that’s not personal. It’s business.

I really do think he’d come to like me if he got to know me. He won’t give me the time of day though. He never has. Which is a shame because Fox is the most attractive man I’ve ever met.

The more he argues with me, the more everyone around us thinks there’s a spark between us. The office pool is over two thousand dollars now, but they’re backing the wrong horse. No one will win this bet because the chance of us hooking up are less than zero. Fox will never see me as anything more than an over-competitive jerk. What a waste of money.

I enter Archer’s office without knocking, which I wouldn’t normally dream of doing to anyone because it’s disrespectful, but I’d have to respect Archer to care about that.

Archer has his bleach-blond head buried in his screen, a smile on his plump lips, and his shirtsleeves rolled up to his elbows to show off his tattoos. They’re also peeking out above his top button too.

I hate those tattoos. Hate that my gaze is always drawn to them. Hate that I want to see what the ink is that’s hidden by his button-up shirt. But mostly I hate them because I find tattoos irresistibly hot on a man, and these tattoos are on a man who doesn’t deserve them. They’re too good for his skin.

Archer lifts his head and then tilts it to the side like a dog. “What are you here to yell at me for this time?”

I wish I could say I come to his office for other reasons and had a right to be mad at that greeting, but I don’t. On either account.

“This.” I throw one of my business cards at his desk. It misses, and I internally sigh. Because god forbid I look cool while throwing something for once in my life. I step closer and pick it up, placing it in front of him this time with a firm hand. “What the hell is this supposed to mean, and why would you do it? Are you serious or purely delusional?”

Archer picks up the card and chuckles. Legit, lets out an immature chuckle like someone just said sixty-nine and he can’t help himself. “I mean, the thought of you marrying me is pretty funny.”

“What is your issue with me? Are you playing childhood games to get me to blow up at you in front of everyone and get fired? Stooping to sabotage so you can sign all of my clients to your roster? If you need to do this shit to get accounts, you’re not as charming as you think. Whatever you have against me, let it go. I’m not going anywhere.”

Archer puts his hand on his heart and says in the driest tone to ever exist, “It’s hurts so much that you don’t want to be the next Camden and Xavier of this office. It hurts so bad.”

I grunt and go to lose my shit at him even more when he beats me.

“It wasn’t me, jackass. Do you really think I’d spell my name wrong on my own cards?” He takes one of his cards out of the box sitting on his desk and slides it over to me.

Archer Halloway

Competitive PITA

His last name has an A instead of an O in Holloway. He makes a good point, but maybe that’s to throw everyone off so he doesn’t get in trouble for pranking my business cards. Make himself look like a victim too.

“At least yours is true,” I mumble.

He laughs for real this time.

“But it also doesn’t mean you didn’t have—"

“Also, you might want to check your work email.”

Uh-oh.

Swallowing hard, I pull my phone out of my pocket and open the inbox I’ve been ignoring since I first saw my new business card.

From: Damon King

Subject: Check your business cards

Hi all,

Due to a recent security breach, our legal team requires you to check your most recent batch of business cards handed out this week. We’ve had numerous reports of misprints, so please make sure yours have your correct title on them and email me if they do not.

On an unrelated note, please be careful who you let inside King Sports properties, both in New York and the LA offices. Also be aware that Maddox O’Shay and Stacy King are no longer allowed to set foot on either premises.

Regards,

Damon King.

King Sports CEO.

The email is so random it’s difficult to understand that it was Damon’s partner and sister responsible for this.

Damon King is a fascinating man. He’s so put together and runs a multi-million-dollar empire, yet he’s surrounded by immaturity. How does he deal with it? I’m struggling hard.

“I’ll take that apology whenever you’re ready,” Archer says.

I take my eyes off my phone to glare at him. “I don’t understand though.”

“Understand that a harmless prank could have been carried out by anyone but me?”

“No. I don’t get why?” These people don’t actually think Archer and I would make a good couple, do they?

“Why, what?”

“Why does mine say I should become your husband but yours is work related?”

“Would you still have thought it was me if it was work related? Or only because it was practically a marriage proposal if it came from me? Think highly of yourself, huh?”

“Yes! Wait, no. Yes, I still would’ve thought it was you if it was work related, but seeing as it wasn’t you and it was the boss’s partner, what have Camden and Xavier been telling Damon for Maddox to think you and I getting married would even be a remote possibility? It’s offensive.”

“It was a joke,” he says. “It’s probably because everyone knows how much you hate me for being better than you.”

“Yes, that’s the reason you drive me crazy. Absolutely has nothing to do with you sniping prospective clients right out from underneath me.”

“Isn’t that the same thing?”

This man is impossible.

“Either way, it’s still offensive.”

“Well, I take offense to your offense. I’m a catch. You’d be lucky to have me.”

“And you would need a miracle to have me.”

Archer leans back in his seat. “I’d take it as a compliment, if I were you.”

“What, because you’re so out of my league that—”

He puts up his hand to stop me from talking, and it’s so fucking rude. “No. It’s a compliment because they couldn’t find anything wrong when it comes to your work ethic, so they had to make shit up.”

I hesitate. Is … is that true?

“Hence, compliment.”

I’d hate to agree with Archer for once, but seeing it from that angle—

“Plus, they’re probably playing into the whole bet thing.”

Bet thing? “What bet?”

Archer’s brow scrunches, but he quickly smooths it out. “You haven’t heard?”

“Unlike others in this office, I try to stay away from gossip.”

“Then maybe you should ask around.”

Why is he like this? “I’m asking you.”

Saga of the Unfated Book 2: A Curse Carved in Bone by Danielle L. Jensen

Saga of the Unfated Book 2

A shield maiden fights to break the shackles of prophecy—and to overcome the betrayal of the man who broke her heart—in this searing conclusion to the Norse-inspired fantasy romance duology that began with the bestselling A Fate Inked in Blood.

The secret of her divine heritage revealed, Freya finds herself on a path that will see thousands of lives lost to the magic in her blood. Desperate to avoid this dark fate, she risks an alliance with Skaland’s greatest enemy to seek answers from the seer who foretold her future—the same seer who sent Bjorn to kill her.

While Freya still seethes with rage over Bjorn’s betrayal, the blood oaths that bind her demand that she keep him close as she hunts for a way to avert the looming war. Her magic draws her to the front lines of an old enmity, embroiling her with Nordeland’s Unfated—children of the gods who serve the king she was raised to fear. The same king who, unlike Bjorn, is now willing to fight at her back. For despite the desire that burns hot between Bjorn and Freya, his growing distrust of her chosen path threatens to drag them further apart.

As war approaches, gods and mortals must choose their weapons. Yet the fiercest battle will be the one Freya wages within herself. With the magic of two goddesses burning in her veins, she must weave the threads of destiny to decide her own fate: Will she be the shield that protects her people or the curse that destroys them?

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Freya finds herself working alongside those she thought were her enemy to escape a dark fate. One she hopes to change. But what she keeps coming back to is her anger. Anger at Bjorn for the lies that he told her and finding herself refusing to relinquish it. At least anytime soon. But for now, she will go with him to Nordeland and speak to the one who has spoken of her fate. She will do anything to not be the monster she keeps being told she will be. It took me a moment to remember this world, but once it came back to me, I was all in. The Norse mythology parts of the story and how it intertwines with the mortals and their magic is still so interesting. And what really got me in this story was the crazy plot twist half way through. After that I was truly hooked to find out how everything would play out. The author did a great job of giving nothing away until the last moment and then you can’t help but recall all that came before it. So nicely done! It raised the stakes and made it that much more interesting. I also respected Freya and Bjorn’s love story at this point in the story. Freya didn’t brush the betrayal under the rug and Bjorn knew it would take a lot more for her to forgive his actions than just words. He may have had little choice in what got them to that point and even when Freya eventually sees that, it still isn’t quite enough for either of them. They really had to fight for one another and come to realization of what they truly mean to one another if they wanted to claim a future for themselves together. I really enjoyed the conclusion to their story! A truly fascinating world, with lots of twists and turns! And a satisfying ending.

Sins of the Zodiac Book 2: Echo Fort by Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti

Sins of the Zodiac Book 2

 The sky is burning.

The Reapers are keeping secrets. Vampires roam the wastes.
And I’m headed down a path of destruction which can only end in death.

I’m a soul cast adrift on a tide of grief and lies. A clock ticking down the moments to my inevitable destruction, and all I can do is race towards it.

The nations are caught in this endless battle for supremacy and it’s hard to see myself as anything other than a pawn in the twisted games I’m helpless to control.

The Waning Lands are screaming, soaked in blood for so long that even the rivers run red with it. But those screams are whispering riddles that only some of us can hear, begging us to see the signs and listen to the meaning beneath the words we chant so obediently.

What if there is something more to this war? What if winning isn’t what actually matters? What if our magic isn’t the thing that truly divides us?

My heart is hardened to the wants of the world and all who occupy it, yet still I hear them call my name. Perhaps it’s time I started listening and found out why the stars have set us this fate. Or if not the stars, then who?

Something is rotting at the heart of our lands. So now I have a choice to make. Will I seek out the decay and work to destroy it? Or will I join it in its destruction of this world in vengeance for all the suffering it has offered me?

I’m starting to want things I shouldn’t want. Desire a man I should hate. Care for a warrior I should only wish to harm. The point is, I’m beginning to feel like more than just another pawn in this endless game. But if I want to be the one who rolls the dice then I’m going to have to pay the price of playing for real.

I only wanted to claim revenge for what I’d lost.

Maybe Destiny isn’t done with me yet.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Took me a minute to get back into this world and recall everything that happened in the previous book, but once it did, I flew through this story! Taking place where the last one left off, everything is pretty messy. For Vesper, she was betrayed and lost her sisters in arms. Now, she dragged herself to her prince to admit her crimes and ready for death. But only after she has gotten her vengeance. Instead, he promises she can have her vengeance before he kills her, if she can bring back the dragon she freed at Never Keep. Having no choice, she does what she is asked. Meanwhile, Everest is bound to Kaiser thanks to his ability has a fury. And she has no choice but to do as he wills. But it doesn’t mean she won’t fight every step of the way. She must also grapple with the fact that Kaiser thinks she is the Void. The thing that will turn the war to whoever’s favor if they can possess her and use her power. And despite the fact that she wants to believe he is wrong, Everest is starting to believe he may be right. So she is determined more than ever to get back to her home after she graduates and use her power to help her land. It’s a battle between everyone and unlikely alliances at every turn. This piece of this world is so interesting and different than what we’ve seen in Solaria where Zodiac Academy took place. They are the same yet not. Our characters are all put in very difficult positions throughout and by the end it feels like no one is on their right path just yet. But it is only a matter of time until they forge the path they are meant to be on. Definitely looking forward to seeing what comes next after that ending!

Foster Bro Code Book 2: Wild Card by DJ Jamison

Foster Bro Code Book 2

 I'm the wild brother ...

I live for the moment. For instant gratification.

And Deputy Dalton Harvey will bring me a lot of gratification.

He's fighting our attraction, but I see the lust in his eyes. I don't care that he's slapped cuffs on me before and probably will again. It'll just make it all the sweeter when he breaks.

When that happens, I'll gladly dirty up that lawman and move on, like I always do. It doesn't matter that Dalton is one of the best men I've met. Or that he's sexy as sin with a sweet smile that always reaches his eyes. Everyone leaves in the end.

The only ones I trust are the strays I take in. The pets abandoned on the side of the road are thrown away just like me. I give them my heart because they'll be unquestionably loyal to me.

Unlike humans.

Unlike Dalton.

He says he wants more. He has honorable intentions. But he just doesn't understand.

He'll leave too. He'll have to when he becomes the sheriff this town needs.

I'm bad news. I'll only drag him down with me. And he deserves better.

He just doesn't know it yet.

********

My Review: 5/5 Stars

It’s Axel and Dalton’s turn and I’ve definitely been excited for their book! Axel hasn’t had it easy through the years. At this point in his life, he expects everyone to leave. Because no one has stuck around before. He can’t even fully trust his brothers to stick around. The hurt is deep and there to stay. But Dalton…he’s different. He’s threatening the walls Axel has built and maybe he could be truly different if Axel gives him a chance. Dalton is tired of fighting his feelings for Axel. His position as Deputy has always held him back in the fear of toeing the line when Axel tends to end up in trouble more often than not. But he’s had enough. Because this connection with Axel is everything. And he’ll prove it to Axel that he isn’t going anywhere. He’s here to stay and he isn’t going to let Axel go. Because he sees past Axel’s mask to the kind hearted person he is. The two of them have a lot going on and a lot to overcome but it’s crystal clear just how well these two are suited for one another. I loved getting to know them more and watch them fall for one another hard. Dalton is everything Axel needs, that stable guy willing to fight for him and be is safe harbor. And Axel reminds Dalton to let loose and take the weight off his shoulders. Loved these two! We have such a great cast of interesting characters in this series and I’m so excited to see the rest of the brothers get their books!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Hockey Rules Book 4: Never Get Stranded with a Sports Reporter by Portia Blake

Hockey Rules Book 4

 Jason

I thought mandatory leave for running my mouth was terrible enough. Then my plane crashes on a remote tropical island—with my childhood-friend-turned-sworn-enemy as my only companion.

The last person I need for survival is the guy who lost his own shot at hockey and now makes a living tearing down mine as a sports reporter. And way worse? I like him just as much as I did back then.

********

My Review: 3.5/5 Stars

Jason knows he messed up. His hockey team and coach are all angry with him and he is currently suspended from the team. And now there is a sports article out in the world sharing his mistakes and the reporter who wrote it is coming back for another article. And if that isn’t bad, the reporter is Cal. The only guy that made all those feelings he shoved deep down appear. But there is no escaping Cal. Even when Jason takes an impromptu trip to Fiji. And believe it or not, things kind of get worse… Cal has run that moment between him and Jason over and over for years. And it’s still hard for him to comprehend how that boy is who Jason is now giving what his reputation has become. And when Cal is assigned to get an interview with Jason, he chases him around the world. But things turn bad fast when the two of them end up stranded on an island off the coast of Fiji. They just need to survive until someone finds them. And though it’s terrible it may be the best thing that happens to them. There’s no more hiding the truth when all they have is one another. And Jason can’t help but feel exhausted after all this time. I really liked Jason’s redemption story here. He wasn’t a bad guy. He just was forced to bury a part of himself so far down that it really hurt him later down the line. But his feelings for Cal have always been so strong and he gets a second chance in a way with Cal. And a chance to make amends so many others that he has hurt along the way.

Bar Down Book 3: Heart Taker by Ava Olsen

Bar Down Book 3

 Silas

I’m the oldest guy on the college hockey team and I’ve heard the jokes but the truth is, I put a year of my life on hold. I've worked hard to prove that I have a future in this game, but Coach Damien Banning doesn’t believe in me. Damien doesn’t think I’m good enough, but he doesn’t know me at all. I’m ruthless. And when the icy tension ignites, it’s too late. But it’s not about hockey anymore.

Damien
I played pro hockey until an injury sidelined my career, my marriage, and brought me to small town Vermont to coach college hockey. I know every player on my team and Silas Moss isn’t cutting it. He’s a skillful d-man, but something’s holding him back. I push him, with good intentions, until summer training camp. I thought my heart was frozen, but no, it’s beating again. And Silas, ruthless player that he is, has taken it.

Heart Taker is a college hockey MM romance. Both MCs have something to prove and everything to lose.

********

My Review: 4/5 Stars

Silas has been through a lot. His mom passed away, his dad had a major stroke not too long after, and his little brother has his own health issues. Drowning in needing to take care of everyone, he takes a year off from college and hockey to get it all done. Now he is back and ready to prove himself. Even with the hectic schedule still in effect. But by the look in his coach’s eyes, Silas knows he will have to show Damien that he has what it takes. But even after a successful season, the look isn’t gone. Summer training camp is what Silas needs in order to continue getting where he needs to be and show Damien that he isn’t backing down. But something has shifted between them. There was always a tension but now it has a whole new level to it. And Silas is beginning to realize that Damien is looking back at him with the same expression. Could there be something between them and are they brave enough to take it? Damien knows getting involved with his player is a bad idea. Their age gap is less than ten years, but still. It won’t look good. But Silas isn’t like anyone he has ever met. And so mature for his age. The tension between them is only heightening and it is just a matter of time before it snaps. I really liked getting to know Silas and Damien. They definitely started wary of one another, but I liked how slowly they got to see something in the other despite the walls they built around themselves. You can’t help but root for them because what is between them is the real deal! Another fun story in this series!
