Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Red, White & Royal Blue

First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz is the closest thing to a prince this side of the Atlantic. With his intrepid sister and the Veep’s genius granddaughter, they’re the White House Trio, a beautiful millennial marketing strategy for his mother, President Ellen Claremont. International socialite duties do have downsides—namely, when photos of a confrontation with his longtime nemesis Prince Henry at a royal wedding leak to the tabloids and threaten American/British relations. The plan for damage control: staging a fake friendship between the First Son and the Prince.

As President Claremont kicks off her reelection bid, Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret relationship with Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations. What is worth the sacrifice? How do you do all the good you can do? And, most importantly, how will history remember you?

My Review: 5/5 Stars

I LOVED this book! Absolutely adored it. This book has been popping up on my radar and I finally had a chance to read it and I wished I read it so long ago! It was adorable and romantic and swoon worthy and hilarious and so many great things I love to read. It just kept surprising me in the best way. From Alex's no filter to his family and to adorable and sweet Henry. It had it all.

So this book follows Alex, the son of the first woman president of the United States and Prince Henry and English royal. The book is in Alex's point of view only and he is such a character. For one thing, the guy wants to go into politics and he honestly has no filter at times and it cracked me up because I kept thinking he is too passionate and expressive to create a politician like mask. So when Alex was young he was really intrigued by Prince Henry. But later on after meeting him he feels that everything he believed about the guy is wrong. The dismissal and attitude landed Prince Henry as Alex's nemesis. And as Alex's mom is prepping to campaign for reelection, Alex finds himself meeting Prince Henry once again when the First Family is invited to attend Henry's brother's wedding. But at the wedding a little accident leads to American and British relations pulling together for damage control. They gotta make nice in front of the cameras until their little accident passes. But being close together leads to actually getting to know one another and in doing so feelings are sparked. At first Alex doesn't realize what he is feeling. But with a little time away from his constant political life goals, self-reflection, and perhaps a kiss from a certain royal, he learns more about himself. But a relationship will not be easy between the two of them. There are a lot of complications and rules and so much more. But the feelings they have toward one another...well, they are worth fighting for.

UGH, this book. The chemistry between Alex and Henry is unreal and so swoony and romantic and you can't help but cheer for them the entire way. Cheer for them to figure out how good they are together, how they feel about one another, and how you want them to find their happily ever after. I adored this story. And the humor was fantastic. Alex was great and Henry had so many great moments. But also their friends and family too. There were so many layers to this story. It was their romance, it was their lives as they figured out their future and who they wanted to be, it was Alex's mom reelection and the politics that followed it and complicated everything. Such a great book and I wish there was more! Loved, loved it.

Dark Shores Book 3: Gilded Serpent by Danielle L. Jensen

Gilded Serpent (Dark Shores, #3)
Dark Shores Book 3

From bestselling author Danielle L. Jensen comes a thrilling new novel in the Dark Shores world, a series that Sarah J. Maas called "everything I look for in a fantasy novel."

THEIR BATTLES ENDED IN VICTORY

Lydia returns to Mudaire to enter training at the healing temple. But instead of fighting to save lives, she’s convinced she is doing more harm than good. She delves into the history of the gods only to discover a truth that will change her life forever.

His birthright as commander of the Royal Army is finally in his grasp, but Killian feels anything but victorious. Burdened by his past, he embraces the darker side of his mark—and in doing so, risks starting a war.

BUT THE WAR HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN

Having defeated the tyrant Urcon, Marcus struggles to form a lasting alliance with the Arinoquians. But he is plagued by the knowledge that there is a traitor among his friends, and it could cost him everything that he’s fought for.

Torn between her growing allegiance to the Thirty-Seventh legion and her need to liberate her people, Teriana finds herself mired in a web of secrets. She embarks upon a path that will either save everyone she loves—or put them all in their graves.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

I'm not sure what it is about this series but it always takes me a little bit to get back into it. Maybe if I did a reread it would be better but I always feel like the beginning is a little slow. But! The moment my mind catches up and remembers the previous books, I remember why I liked this series so much and why I keep reading. This was definitely the best one of the series so far. Not only because we get all four points of view: Teriana, Marcus, Lydia, and Killian, but just so much happens. The pace picks up and you can't put it down. Marcus and Teriana are trying to build alliances but an ambush causes them to be portaled away and they must do whatever it takes to make it back to the 37th. Too much is at stake. And their relationship is tested to the max. Meanwhile, Lydia and Killian are trying to do what is right for Mudaire but things only get more complicated when truths are revealed. Things are a lot worse than either realized in country. They are soon thrown back together and they form a plan that could save everyone from the blight. But their journey isn't easy either. I really loved this one. The adventure and hardships these characters take is a new level. They are tested in so many ways but that ending. Wow. A LOT happens. Lots of cliffhangers and lots of dangerous issues are left unsolved. We learn so much more about this world and about our characters that even they didn't know. It took this series to a new level. And I can't wait to see how this series wraps up in the final book.

About the Book:

Save the bees, ride a rock star.

Formerly famous . . . and planning to keep it that way.

After my band kicked me out, I ran away to Vermont, changed my name, and kept my head down. So far, it’s working and nobody knows who I am. Or who I was. Until I see geeky poet Caleb stumbling through his first open mic night and I can’t help rescuing him. He’s as sweet as the honey my bees make and sexy enough to make me rethink so many things. But I can’t tell him my secret, or I’ll lose the anonymous life I worked so hard to build.

Everyone warns me he’s too good to be true.

I can’t believe a gorgeous, successful winemaker like Tag is into shy, geeky little accountant me. But he helps me blossom and believe in my talent, and works his way into my heart and my bed… not necessarily in that order. I’m falling for a man for the first time, and now I know what the missing number in my equation has always been.

When lies are revealed, though, someone’s going to get stung . . .

About the Book:

One night with Reeve Hale wasn’t enough. I knew it when I kissed him, I knew it when I slept with him, and I was certain of it when I walked out of his motel room the very next day.

So when the shy, gorgeous man is introduced as our newest employee at Vino and Veritas, I can’t help but conjure up all the ridiculous ways to convince him to repeat that unforgettable night. Like asking him to be my fake boyfriend at my sister’s upcoming wedding.

Only, I didn’t expect him to say yes.

Playing pretend shouldn’t feel this real. Especially when Reeve is planning on leaving Vermont after the summer.

We agreed to one night. We negotiated a fake relationship. But I’m the one who broke our terms. I wasn’t supposed to fall in love and he was never supposed to be so unforgettable.

About the Book:

I swore I wouldn’t do this again. Mix sports, school, and sex. But right now the only thing standing between me and the NHL is six feet of frenemy packed into a pair of form-fitting jeans that have me thinking all kinds of things I shouldn’t. Mostly how to get him out of them.

I don’t just want Kolby. I need him. Because I’ve got to pass this theater class--yeah, I said theater--if I’m going to keep my spot on the team. When tutoring sessions turn into dates-not-dates over Shipley Cider at Vino and Veritas, I realize it’s going to be harder than I thought to keep my hands on my stick and off of Kolby. Worse, I think I might be falling for him. But I’m not ready for that. I want to keep this thing between us on the down-low for now.

But Kolby hates secrets. Especially his own . . .

About the Book:

My new roommate has the worst taste in men.

I mean, Murph’s special. He’s funny and flamboyant and full of life.

While I’m straight, even I can tell these guys aren’t good enough for him.

I had to yell at one date, toss another one out the door, and throw a beer in another’s face.

Kind of embarrassing, really. I don’t know what’s gotten into me.

I ask my sister what’s wrong with me and she says I’m jealous.

Jealous? Please. Me?

Come on.

Only thing is, I hate the thought of Murph kissing any guy. Ever.

Except, maybe ... me?

Undone is a contemporary m/m romance about a dreamy insurance agent that might not be as straight as he thinks, an adorable bartender who adds sparkle wherever he goes, and maybe one or two jokes about swords.

Blade of Secrets (Bladesmith, #1)
Bladesmith Book 1

My Review: 5/5 Stars

I have yet to read a book by Tricia Levenseller that I didn't love. Blade of Secrets is another great addition to her works. And I'm so glad there is a sequel for this one! This story follows Ziva, a bladesmith who can make magical weapons. Everyone wants their hands on her work but all Ziva wants is to stay far away from people and earn enough money to get her sister and her faraway. Ziva suffers from social anxiety. She doesn't like people and prefers to stay far away from them. She is truly only comfortable around her sister, Temra. Though that does change when she meets a certain handsome mercenary. For the first time she wonders what it would be like to have conversation with him without her anxiety threatening to drown her. Both fortunately and unfortunately, Ziva is about to find out. When Ziva is approached by a warlord seeking a weapon, Ziva believes this may be the opportunity she was looking for to get her sister out of their town. But the weapon Ziva makes is more dangerous than she realizes. The sword not only can cut down enemies at a distance but when it spills blood the sword reveals the person's secrets. The sword reveals to Ziva that this warlord isn't seeking to continue peace but to rage war across the lands. And to enslave Ziva to build her more weapons. There is only one choice, Ziva and Temra must run. They have to find a way to protect the sword so they can destroy it. They end up enlisting the mercenary Ziva is fascinated by, Kellyn and a scholar, Petrik, who is looking to learn more about Ziva's magic, for help to get away. So many adventures the four of them go on as they fight the warlord's assassins and those who believe that magic is evil. But Ziva will do whatever it takes to make her sister safe and destroy the dangerous blade she created.

I loved this story. These four characters are definitely favorites of mine. I loved how Ziva fought to work past her severe anxiety and in moments she thought herself weak, all I saw was how strong she was. Kellyn is great for Ziva as well. He works to understand her and challenges her to overcome her fears.  They were such a great group of characters and their dynamic was fantastic. The story had so many twists and turns and I couldn't put it down. The ending alone was crazy and now I'm desperate for book two!

Tahoe Dragon Mates Book 5: The Dragon's Weakness by Jessie Donovan

The Dragon's Weakness (Tahoe Dragon Mates #5)
Tahoe Dragon Mates Book 5

David Lee is the dragon-shifter leader of Clan StoneRiver and has vowed to never take a mate. The previous five clan leaders all lost their mates to tragedy, and he is determined to prevent any other female from sharing that fate. Even when he discovers his true mate in a human named Tiffany Ford, David tries his best to keep his distance to protect her. But when he’s forced to be near her for a week, during an event to help orphaned dragon-shifter children, the human becomes harder to resist. It’s going to take everything he has to keep her safe.

Tiffany Ford is thrilled to be selected to help with the orphaned dragon children. Even if the StoneRiver clan leader is distant and borderline rude to her at first, she soon makes friends and is enjoying herself. At least until David sends away another dragonman so he can talk with her himself, and he ends up giving her a sort of challenge to test her observation skills. David wants her to come up with a report on him by the end of the week. And despite the odd request, she’s never one to back down and accepts.

As the days go by, Tiffany starts to realize there is more to David than his aloofness, making her wonder if there could be something more. The only problem is that they both have reasons to stay away from each other. Will they overcome them to forge their own destiny? Or, will the past end up keeping them apart forever?

NOTE: This is a quick, steamy standalone story about fated mates and sexy dragon-shifters near Lake Tahoe in the USA. You don’t have to read all my other dragon books to enjoy this one!

My Review: 5/5 Stars

This world of dragonshifters is such a fun one. I love how this series is expanding. This is the fifth book in the Tahoe Dragon Mates series where the dragons are based in the US. This story follows David, the leader of Clan StoneRiver and Tiffany, a human who has been selected to help with the orphaned dragon children. David knows that Tiffany is his true mate. He's known for a while but because of the curse of the clan leaders before him losing their mates, he refuses to put her in any danger. His dragon may laugh that the curse isn't real, but David isn't so sure. And he doesn't want to be the reason his mate dies. Tiffany's world was introduced to the dragonshifters when her brother mated one. And when there is an opportunity to help dragonshifter children get adopted, she wants to help in any way she can. Doing this program at Clan StoneRiver puts her near David, who she can't deny her attraction to him but she also can't read him well. She knows there is more to meets the eye with David, and she wonders if she can figure it out. Or if David will share with her. It isn't long until the two can't stay away from one another and even when they can't deny feelings anymore, things get more complicated with the humans who are against dragonshifters. Can Tiffany and David find a way to be together and keep one another safe? I loved their story! Their romance was so sweet and the the twists and turns were so great! Tiffany is such a strong female character and she wasn't afraid to show she could kick butt and protect herself. And she was just what David needed in his life. Someone he can be himself with and know that when push comes to shove Tiffany will fight to make it back to him. Just another great addition to this series and I can't wait to read more from the Tahoe Dragon Mates.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

About the Book:

It was just a bet . . . until feelings got involved.

This job sucks but someone’s got to do it. My readers expect me to chronicle my very real, very steamy encounters in my novels. I’d never want to disappoint my fans, but the creative well has run a bit dry. Burlington, Vermont, seems like a good place to fill it up. This town offers a tempting array of artists, craftsmen, farmers, lumbersexuals . . . and so many beards.

But no one prepared me for Brody. He’s young. He’s hot. He’s definitely a grump. And he's getting under my skin. Where I want him is under my bedsheets.

When my friend bets I’ll never be able to get Brody there, I make winning my mission. Turns out being with Brody is more than a plot device. He’s so very wrong for my life . . .  but is he right for my heart?

Insatiable is a standalone book in the Vino & Veritas series by Heart Eyes Press and contains a big/small, grumpy/sunshine pairing, a bed-hopping author, a jilted sugarmaker and a reluctant fake relationship.

About the Book:

When a sunny young musician gets stranded with a grumpy mechanic during a snowstorm, a lack of heat is the least of their problems…

Liam Luckett is on an adventure. He's dropped out of his Master's program without telling his overbearing parents and set off on a road trip across the country. Armed with little more than his guitar, he’s looking for his best life. He never expected his car to break down in the middle of nowhere Vermont with a huge storm pending, leaving him stranded and at the mercy of a hunky local mechanic.

Jasper Cunningham is in a holding pattern. Three years after the death of his husband, he still hasn’t moved on. A hot, younger, stranded tourist is exactly the sort of complication this mechanic has been avoiding. But he also can’t leave him in the snow. He brings Liam home and lets him sleep on the couch. The air is heavy with more than snow, and when the power goes out, the two men become closer than either of them expects.

Every silken note Liam sings on that guitar thaws Jasper’s heart a little.  Suddenly, Liam’s itchy feet aren’t so eager to move on. When their feelings get too big to ignore, the bond they’ve formed is tested. Will daybreak leave them going their separate ways?

This opposites-attract, hurt/comfort romance features a grumpy widower who is only soft for one specific blue-eyed musician, a remote farmhouse, a friendly dog, and enough snow to knock the power out until love catches fire.

About the Book:

The best music comes from the heart.

Sean Anderson has spent his life waiting to get the hell out of West Virginia. His plans got derailed when his dad shipped him off to “pray the gay away,” but he’s over it, ready to prove that he’s a grown-ass man who can take care of himself. Of course, he’d have a better chance convincing himself if he could stop lusting after his grumpy roommate.

Army veteran Cooper Hill returned to Vermont minus one leg and one career, but determined to build a new life. When an army buddy asks Cooper to keep an eye on his nephew, a junior at the local college, Cooper can’t say no. He’s expecting a sheltered kid. What he gets is a gorgeous young man whose brilliant poetry gives voice to everything Cooper’s been trying to express. He wants Sean more than he’s ever wanted anything. And somehow, miraculously, Sean wants him too.

A stand-alone novel in Sarina Bowen’s True North world, HEARTSONG contains first love, found family, kisses around the campfire, and two caring men who discover they make beautiful music together.
