Psy-Changeling Trinity Book 6: Storm Echo by Nalini Singh

Storm Echo (Psy-Changeling Trinity, #6; Psy-Changeling, #21)
Psy-Changeling Trinity Book 6

NYT bestselling author Nalini Singh takes us into the hearts of two fractured people in a world on the brink of a psychic Armageddon . . .

Silence has fallen. The Psy are free to feel emotion. Free to love. But Silence was never a prison for Ivan Mercant. The biggest threat to his future lies dormant in his brain—a psychic monster that wants only to feed. And now, the brutal leash he’s kept on that monster is slipping. He prepared for this day, for the end of Ivan Mercant . . . but that was before he met Lei.

As primal as she is human, this wild changeling brings color into his life, laughter to his soul. Then the dream shatters in a rain of blood, in silent bodies in the snow. Lei is gone. Vanished without a trace . . . until he meets strangely familiar eyes across a busy San Francisco street.

Soleil Bijoux Garcia is a healer who has lost everything. She exists in a world of desolate aloneness . . . till the day she finds herself face-to-face with a lethal stranger. The animal who is her other half knows this man, but her memories are tattered fragments. Sorrow and a need for vengeance are all that drive her. Her mission? To kill the alpha of the DarkRiver leopard pack.

But fate has other plans. Soon, a deadly soldier who believes himself a monster and a broken healer might be all that stand between life and death for the entire Psy race.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Amazing, as per usual. This is one of my favorite worlds and I'm always excited to dive back in. And here we are with yet another Mercant. Just give me all the Mercant stories because you can't help but love everyone who comes from that family. Ivan Mercant proves to be another Psy with a unique and very deadly ability. One that is kept on a leash at all times and one Ivan is afraid will break free one day. Ivan isn't afraid to die should that monster inside break free. But then he meets Lei. Lei, a changeling cat, who changes everything for Ivan. Their original meeting was sweet and full of laughter and hope. Until Lei disappeared and slipped through Ivan's fingers. That is until he meets her again in San Francisco. But the Lei who stares back at him is different than the woman he remembers. She is having trouble remembering Ivan and broken out of grief and heartache she is nowhere near close to herself. A healer that his simply lost. Lei needs answers about what happened to her pack and Lucas Hunter is the answer. Ivan won't let Lei go again... not unless the monster within threatens to take her down with him. So much going on in this story! And so many answers to questions we've been having as well. The pieces are slowly starting to come together on the Psy's latest enemy the Scarab Queen. We are getting pieces of the puzzle about how to save the Psy-Net, yet no definite solutions just yet. I absolutely adored Ivan and Lei. Ivan had so many surprises. Lei is a healer with a spine of steel and once she realizes who Ivan is to her, she refuses to let go. I also love being back in DarkRiver territory! So many connections between so many different groups in this world and they are all slowly coming together. Another great story to this series and as always I can't wait for more!

Bladesmith Book 2: Master of Iron by Tricia Levenseller

Master of Iron (Bladesmith, #2)
Bladesmith Book 2

Eighteen-year-old Ziva may have defeated a deadly warlord, but the price was almost too much. Ziva is forced into a breakneck race to a nearby city with the handsome mercenary, Kellyn, and the young scholar, Petrik, to find a powerful magical healer who can save her sister's life.

When the events that follow lead to Ziva and Kellyn's capture by an ambitious prince, Ziva is forced into the very situation she's been dreading: magicking dangerous weapons meant for world domination.

The forge has always been Ziva's safe space, a place to avoid society and the anxiety it causes her, but now it is her prison, and she's not sure just how much of herself she'll have to sacrifice to save Kellyn and take center stage in the very war she's been trying to stop.

In Master of Iron, the conclusion to Tricia Levenseller's exciting Bladesmith YA fantasy duology, a magically gifted blacksmith with social anxiety must race against the clock to save her beloved sister and stop a devastating war.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

A great conclusion to this series! With that last cliffhanger, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the sequel and it didn't disappoint. Ziva is desperate to save her sister who was dying more each day from an injury. Her only hope is to get her to a woman who has healing magic. But things are never that simple. Even when Ziva, Kellyn, and Petrik make it the location with a dying Temra, the healer is gone. Taken. But there is hope. With another magic user, Ziva, Kellyn, and Petrik can get to the healer quickly. But she is currently a prisoner of one of the princes. With a lot of chaos, Petrik gets the healer to safety but Ziva and Kellyn find themselves captured. War is coming. And they need to rescue themselves and get back to those they care about in order to prepare for their biggest battle yet. Lots of action and romance in this one! I couldn't put this book down. I love where the story went. It had plenty of twists and turns that kept me on my toes. The romance growing between Ziva and Kellyn was so sweet. They grew together. Especially Ziva who's anxieties still bother her. However, she is learning to be braver and conquer them bit by bit. But Kellyn is patient and cares so much for Ziva. This was just a great story overall with interesting characters and a world so different from ones I've read. Tricia Levenseller has yet to disappoint me when it comes to her books. And I'm always looking forward to more from her.

The Dawn of Yangchen by F.C. Yee

The Dawn of Yangchen (The Yangchen Novels, #1)
Book 1

From the New York Times bestselling author of Avatar, the Last Airbender: The Rise of Kyoshi and Avatar, the Last Airbender: The Shadow of Kyoshi comes a thrilling new chapter in the Chronicles of the Avatar series

Yangchen’s inexperience may prove to be her greatest asset . . .

Plagued by the voices of Avatars before her for as long as she can remember, Yangchen has not yet earned the respect felt for Avatar Szeto, her predecessor. In an era where loyalty is bought rather than earned, she has little reason to trust her counsel. When Yangchen travels to Bin-Er in the Earth Kingdom on political business, a chance encounter with an informant named Kavik leads to a wary partnership. Bin-Er is a city ruled by corrupt shang merchants who have become resentful of the mercurial Earth King and his whims. To extract themselves from his influence, the shangs have one solution in mind: a mysterious weapon of mass destruction that would place power squarely in their hands. As Yangchen and Kavik seek to thwart the shangs’ plan, their unlikely friendship deepens. But for Yangchen to chart her course as a singularly powerful Avatar, she must learn to rely on her own wisdom above all else.

This propulsive third installment in the Chronicles of the Avatar series illuminates Avatar Yangchen’s journey from uncertain young woman to revered leader.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

When we meet Avatar Yangchen back in Aang's story in Avatar the Last Airbender, Aang is seeking Yangchen's advice as a fellow airbender Avatar on how to follow your Air Nomad teachings even as the Avatar. And Avatar Yangchen says, "Selfless duty calls you to sacrifice your own spiritual needs and do whatever it takes to protect the world." I kept thinking about this quote and how Yangchen truly believed this based on her actions in this story. So let me back up. The beginning of this story shows glimpses of a young Yangchen. Fellow Avatar fans know, that an Avatar learns of their identity when they are sixteen. Typically. But we know that isn't always true. Aang overheard the monks and learned when he twelve who he was and ran away that night. While Korra had the affinity of almost all the elements when she was about four and knew exactly what that meant. For Yangchen, it wasn't so simple. She had something we haven't seen. Her past lives are constantly in her mind. Talking and talking and talking to the point where as a child, it was the most painful experience for her and she had no idea what was happening. All their experiences coming at her and the only way to stop the voices was for someone to figure out which Avatar was currently talking and find the works of companions or something she was muttering under her breath to bring her back to reality. Yangchen also has more of an affinity when dealing with the spirits and the Spirit World. She may not have realized who she was when she was a child right away, but the incidents lead her to learning early. This shaped who she becomes.

In this book, Yangchen is seventeen and has already dealt with some issues and is proving to be a powerful Avatar even at a young age. But there is always work to be done. And her current work is about helping the city Bin-Er before some sort of weapon arrives. It means recruiting Kavik, a waterbender who has no side and revealing that this Avatar knows what it means to play the game she hates. How to build a network and have spies and be one herself. So back to her quote to Aang. She realizes that she cannot be this true Air Nomad. Her teachings and sense of identity as an Air Nomad can go only so far since she is the Avatar. She will learn that to achieve your goals and find the peace you wish to bring, will require sacrifice and you can only take so much of the brunt.

I really enjoyed this story! Yangchen was a surprise despite knowing that one quote from her. I didn't expect her to be so sneaky and intelligent in that world of deception. But she is strong and brave and loyal and willing to help others no matter the cost to her own life. And then we have Kavik. He was another great character though you can see his struggle of being basically forced to be Yangchen's spy. He wants to help his family and he'll make his own sacrifices before truly realizing who he is. Great story overall. Lots of twists and turns. And even more head nods to many, many things we have seen in the Avatar world. It's fun to see things we know from Aang's time and realize it goes very far back. That these things existed even then. I couldn't put the book down. And with that bit of a cliffhanger at the end of this story, I am definitely looking forward to more of Avatar Yangchen and her companions.

Witches of the Island Book 3: A Glorious and Devilish Expanse by Katie McGarry

A Glorious and Devilish Expanse (Witches of the Island, #3)
Witches of the Island Book 3

Three prophecies. Two queens. One love.

Hour zero.

The world teeters on the brink of a fated apocalypse and time is running out. The Fae have one chance to save the earth from the demons that seek to possess its inhabitants…but there is no promise of victory when three prophecies foretell three outcomes—all with separate victors.

Worse, Cassie is without Orion, who has fallen prey to a scheming demon prince and transformed into her most deadly foe. Racing against the clock to fulfill the only prophecy that will keep them alive, she must find a spell that will bring the young queens into their full power before war is upon them.

But as the world crumbles to dark forces, alliances are broken, sides are swapped and enemies descend in all forms. Without Orion at her side, Cassie’s darkest hour looms. The only hope she has is to convince Orion that his heart belongs to her, her soul belongs with his, and that they are fated to be together, in love, for the rest of their lives.

For as long—or as little—as those lives might still last. Or everything they fought to save will be forever lost.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

A great conclusion to this trilogy! This series has been so fun and had so many twists and turns. With the last cliffhanger, I couldn't wait to read this story and it didn't disappoint. Cassie is pregnant with not only her husband Orion's child but with the Faerie Queen they have all been searching for. And this pregnancy isn't exactly a normal one. Speeded up, she is due any moment. Meanwhile, Orion has returned from purgatory and isn't himself. Not when his mother has bargained with a demon. She made sure his memories of Cassie were gone and that he believed she was the one to kill him. But the connection between Orion and Cassie is stronger than anything else. There is enough to stall Orion and wonder just exactly what happened to him. It will take time and patience before Orion remembers who he truly is and who the real enemy is. Cassie will have to remain strong to save not only the world but her daughters as well. She will do anything to keep Asteria on the right side, the side that will save all. But there are many forces against them. It will take everything they have to save their world. A really great final book to this series. Questions answered, action, romance, and a constant feeling of being on the edge of your seat. Everything I could have wanted for this final book!

Out Today! Tease by Melanie Harlow

Could Hutton French and I actually be right for each other, or is it all just one big tease?
TEASE, an all new sizzling friends to lovers, fake engagement small town romantic comedy from USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling author Melanie Harlow, is now available!

I didn’t mean to say I was engaged to a hot billionaire–it just slipped out.

In my defense, I’d had a really bad haircut, a really strong drink, and I was trying to save face in front of the Mean Girl at my high school reunion.

Lucky for me, I happen to know a hot billionaire. Hutton French and I have been friends forever, and even though big social gatherings are not his thing, I called him from the coat closet and begged him for a favor–show up and play my fake fiancé for the night.

Except that word of our engagement spreads like wildfire. Our families are ecstatic. We’re front page news. My little food blog is launched into the stratosphere.

Of course, I offer to set the record straight right away, but Hutton wants to give it a little time–the phony engagement will keep his matrimony-mad mother and every matchmaking granny in town off his back.

He even suggests I move in with him to make the ruse more real.

And we don’t stop there.

We practice kissing. Undressing each other. Saying things–and doing things–we’d never dare if we weren’t pretending. Because it’s all for show, right? We’re just role-playing. Hutton doesn’t want a real relationship, and I don’t want to get hurt. But the more time we spend faking it, the more I start to wonder.

"Want something to drink? Whiskey or scotch?”
“No, thanks. Mostly I just want to take these heels off.”
“Leave them on.”
I was already bending down to unbuckle one ankle strap. I looked up and saw him standing there with his glass in his hand. “What?”
“Leave them on. And come over here.”
I straightened up and took one tiny step.
“On your hands and knees.”
My breath caught. I could feel his eyes on me. Instantly I understood what this was, and even though I was a little nervous, I wanted to play along. I wanted to please him this way.
The only problem was, I wasn’t entirely sure I could get to my knees in this tight dress. But I said a quick prayer and dropped to my knees on the carpet in one smooth motion. Thankfully, the dress material had some stretch, and the seams didn’t pop.
“Good girl,” he said quietly, igniting a firestorm in my blood that surprised me. “Now come here.”
My heart thrummed fast and loud as I lowered my palms to the floor and slowly closed the distance between us. I’d never done anything like this in my life—who am I right now?—but I liked the way it made me feel.
Tempting. Seductive. Alluring. I’d never thought of myself that way before, but here and now, in this tight little black dress with the red satin heels, crawling toward a gorgeous, powerful man in a suit in our Manhattan hotel suite? My billionaire fake fiancé? It was easy to imagine I wasn’t myself at all.
When I reached his feet, I sat back on my heels and looked up. Our eyes met. His lean, muscular silhouette looked imposing above me. Even that rebel lock of hair had been tamed into submission tonight.
He took another sip of his drink and set the glass on the table. Pulled the chair at the head of the table aside. Loosened the knot in his tie. “Are you okay?”
“Yes.”
“If there’s a point tonight where you are not, you should tell me.” He slipped the tie from his collar.
I swallowed hard. “Like a safe word?”
His mouth hooked up on one side. His hand freed the top button of his shirt. “You already have a safe word?”
“No,” I said quickly. “I’ve never needed one before.”
“You do now.” He undid a second button. “So what will it be?”
Of course, I couldn’t fucking think of anything, and I panicked.
“Roy Kent,” I blurted.
He cocked his head, his hand still on his shirt. “Who’s Roy Kent?”
“Never mind. I’ll think of another one.”
Do not say Oklahoma.
Do not say bumblebee.
I racked my brain for something else. “Romeo,” I said breathlessly. “That’s what I’ll say. Romeo.”
He set his tie on the table and offered me a hand.
Placing my palm in his, I rose to my feet. “Is anything going to hurt?” I asked, picturing whips, chains, ball gags, metal cuffs and clamps, shiny rubber gloves.
“I don’t need to inflict pain to feel in control, if that’s what you’re asking.”
“Okay. Should I—”
But that was all I got out because he spun me around and clamped a hand over my mouth, pressing his body tight against my back.

Dark Lords of London Book 2: Vampire's Fae Witch Healer by Jessie Donovan

Vampire's Fae Witch Healer (Dark Lords of London, #2)
Dark Lords of London Book 2

Nora Yates has a dark past, one that means she never wants to find her fated lord and suffer a male's touch ever again. However, when her sister-in-law's brother appears suddenly from the future, broken and barely breathing, she rushes to help him. One touch makes her heart beat, blooding her and determining her fate—she needs to claim him at least once or she'll slowly go mad and lose her mind. Although how she's going to suffer being intimate without her dark memories crashing down and paralyzing her, she doesn't know.

Dr. River Vale wakes up in pain, his new surroundings unfamiliar, and his body weak from his months' long captivity. It's definitely not the same place where he'd been kept prisoner and tortured by a ruthless vampire mob-boss's minions. But when a female vampire shows up with the same last name as the bastard who ordered his kidnapping, he lashes out. The look of fear and uncertainty in her eyes makes him pause and wonder if she's actually afraid of him or merely putting on an act.

As River adjusts to the fact his sister brought him to 1890 London via her newfound magic, he learns more about the vampire named Nora. Her damaged soul calls to him as a healer, and when he finds out he's her fated lord, he wonders if maybe he should give them a chance. But will both of their pasts be too much to overcome to find happiness? Or will being together make them stronger than they ever thought possible, enough to shine light on the darkness of their pasts and create a happy ending after all?

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Nora and River's story was so good! After meeting Nora, I couldn't wait for her story. The female vampire has been through such horrors in her life. She deserved to be free of them and find her happy ending. Though she never expects it to be in the form of her new sister-in-law's brother from the future. One minute River is suffering from horrible pain after being tortured for months, next minute he wakes up in a new setting and finds out that not only has he jumped in time by a sister he thought had no magic but he is the fated lord of a vampire named Nora. His body is the weakest it has ever been and thanks to his magic, his mind is hiding the bits of memory from his time as a prisoner. But it's only a matter of time until the memories come rushing back. As for Nora, she swore never to be with a male again. Her vicious past has left her scarred physically and emotionally. She hasn't even left the home her brother built. But then one touch by River and her heart starts beating. She can't help but wonder why mate match her with River? But as the two of them get to know one another, they begin to realize that maybe they can heal one another. And find the happily ever after they both thought they would never have. Loved both of these characters. Nora's journey of healing is slow but strong as she brings herself to put herself out there with a little encouragement from River. With his support and love, she finds herself wanting a future she always hoped she had but never dared thought possible. And River has the biggest heart but also is so hilarious by how much he curses. The man has no filter and it is fantastic. And just what Nora needs. You don't want to miss this story and this unique paranormal world!

Dark Lords of London Book 1: Vampire's Modern Bride by Jessie Donovan

Dark Lords of London Book 1

Blackmailed by her father into marrying a ruthless vampire mob boss, Yesenia Vale somehow makes it down the aisle to the male who only wants to use her as a broodmare. After all, she's a fae witch without magic, an outcast, and marrying the bastard is the only way to ensure her brother and sister remain safe from his clutches. However, as soon as the groom slides his ring on her finger, she wishes she could be anywhere else, to have a future of her choosing. In the next moment, the world blacks out. And when she wakes up, she's no longer in twenty-first century Boston but rather in late-nineteenth-century London, blooding a vampire she's never seen before.

Leopold Yates is one of the three Dark Lords of London, ruling over the vampires in the city and doing his best to keep his alliance with the fae witches and shifters to avoid a repeat of their bloody past. Part of how he does it is by remaining in his stronger frozen state, never wanting to find his fated bride. But when a mysterious, half-dressed fae witch shows up in his gaming hell, unconscious, he goes to help her, but touching her skin instantly makes his heart beat again. Even if he hates her for making him weak, he needs to keep her close until he claims her with his fangs and cock. If not, he'll eventually lose his mind and go mad.

Both have something the other needs, and so they strike a bargain. Leo will help Yesenia find a way to contact her family in the future, and she will let him claim her once to stave off madness. But what starts as a business deal ends up morphing into something more. Will they find a way to be together in the past? Or will Leo have to let Yesenia go back to the future to protect her family and lose her forever?

Note: This is a spicy/steamy time-travel romance complete with a grumpy vampire leader, an outcast fae witch with a secret, plenty of heat, and a clash of past versus future views. This story is most definitely not fade to black (ahem, you'll learn what touching a fae witch's pointed ears will do...).Warning: you may end up laughing, fanning yourself, and shouting at your ereader/Kindle.Goodreads Link TK

My Review: 5/5 Stars

A new world from Jessie Donovan and it is so neat! She has created a world of paranormals that is so different from anything I have read. We have vampires, shifters, and fae witches. Each with different and unique traits that are not typical to what you may be used to in other stories. It was such a fun and different approach to a paranormal world and I loved it. I'm so excited to see where this world goes. So the first book follows Yesenia and Leo. Yesenia is a fae witch without magic. And when her father basically sells her to a vampire to marry to pay off his debts, she has no choice but to comply or else risking the lives of her two siblings who she has in hiding. But she can't guarantee their safety forever. So she goes complies. But in the middle of the ceremony she finds herself passing out... and waking up in 1890. Turns out she may just have some magic and it involves time travel. When Leo sees a woman appear out of nowhere in his work establishment, he wonders if his enemies have sent her there. But the moment he touches her, she realizes that she is his bride. Vampires in this world reach a point where their heart stops beating and they stop aging until basically their soulmate comes into their lives. And with Yesenia now being his, he is a little miffed because he is the current leader for vampires in this part of London. And the alliance between other paranormals is still new enough and keeping the peace is important. He fears losing time to ensure the peace stays permanent. Two worlds colliding and despite the complications, Yesenia and Leo feel a pull toward one another. It's only a matter of time until they fight for it. So much setting up in this world. I don't want to give spoilers away, but definitely worth checking out! There are a lot of interesting characters who I hope all get a book. I can't wait to explore this world more.

My Review: 5/5 Stars

Felicity and Hutton's story was so good! The perfect to best friends who are secretly in love with one another but don't know it story. Felicity and Hutton have been friends for a long time. Each having moments where they wished to tell the other how they feel but chickening out, afraid to ruin their friendship. Now the time to hide is almost over. Starting with when Felicity tells the still Mean Girl from high school that she is engaged to a hot billionaire aka her best friend Hutton. And like a good friend, Hutton shows up and goes along with the crazy charade. Despite his own anxiety issues. But Felicity is the one person he'll do anything for. However, their white lie blows up when that mean girl tells everyone they are engaged. Now both of their families are over the moon and admitting their lie seems a little bit hard. So they decide to roll with it just a bit longer. But the lines between real and pretend start to blur. Especially when the two reveal they always wanted to kiss the other. It doesn't take long for them to wonder if they go for it for real or play it safe with their friendship. Felicity and Hutton were such great characters. They had their own unique quirks and were beyond great for one another. I couldn't put the book down! Another great addition to this series.
